Publisher's Summary

Centuries ago, we lost our world. Planetary Acquisitions keeps us alive solely to maintain their vast fleet of gate ships in an endless quest to find them new worlds to settle - or to conquer. Years flutter by like a tree shedding its spring petals, and so we desperately cling to this chunk of dirt-and-machine we call home.

And all those centuries since, we've been looking for a way out, risky as it might be. Are we fools?

Traitors, Thieves and Liars is the first book in a trilogy retelling the events of Ten Thousand Miles Up in a grand epic. The geroo have been trapped in slavery for centuries, searching for useful planets for their krakun masters. And then, one day, pirates contact Captain Ateri with an opportunity that may prove too good to be true.

Includes the short story "Whatever Happened to Commissioner Sarsuk?" which details the downfall of the former commissioner of the fleet.

The characters were well crafted and the narrator has wonderful range. The bittersweet ending had me in tears.

Amazingly fun book!

I was looking for a new series and this has hit a cord. It has a cool scifi setting without retreading the same stale tropes and not defaulting to trek or wars. Rick has made a good universe and diverse races that I can't wait to find more about. He could stand to detail what some of the tech looks like a bit more though.

The narrator does a good job trying to keep each character unique and different but his voice is a bit lulling.

All in all a great story that I can't wait to continue. The title has me worried about characters futures but that just makes me want to hear/read more!

A Great Start for a New Sci-Fi Trilogy

I've technically already read this book before, but because I got the Captain's Oath as an audio book I had figured that it wouldn't hurt to go through it again. I was still as invested the second time as I was the first time. The performance was pretty solid as well.

The narration is beautiful, I savor every uninterrupted moment, I think of the story in between sessions the time between sessions are agonizing I don't want it to end so many twists and turns unexpected turn of events, The end was totally unexpected love the outcome :-)

Great story and well told

I do not often listen to Audio books but I really enjoyed listening to this, and I may have to start listening to more if they are all of this quality.

Piers Ryman is a wonderful reader and really makes the characters come to life. Each one has a distinct voice which really makes it easy to follow the flow of conversation and the story overall.

The Author does a great job world building within this first book and I am eager to start the next book. I am a big Rick Griffin fan and have already purchased the next book in the series and will be eagerly waiting for the final book to be released in the future.

As for the story itself, if you enjoy furries, and space and technology this is a great pick up. I enjoyed it a lot and couldn't put it down, finishing it within 4 days. I'd finish it faster but Work and other social commitments got in the way. I will be recommending this to my friends.

An Astonishing Book

"This reader was provided a copy free of charge and has left this review voluntarily."

Traitors, Thieves and Liars is a very captivating story. Usually it's very difficult for me to get into stories about space, but this one was able to mesmerize me. The connections between the characters give a feel of genuine affinity among them. Piers Ryman's performance of Rick Griffin's book was impeccable. This book is genuinely worth reading or listening to and I can't wait to listen to second book in the series.

A Fantastic Experience

Rick Griffin has created a wonderful tale and Piers Ryman's production of the audiobook was spectacular. The story follows Gert—an alien who looks a bit like a kangaroo—and how forces way beyond his control brought out the hero in him. His boss, Ateri, has decided to take a huge gamble that will either end in freedom from slavery or death for the whole crew of 10,000, and now Gert has no choice but to follow along and try to make the long-shot of a plan work. But it's not going to be easy. Things will go wrong, people will get hurt—even killed—and the various gals in his life will make everything harder, not easier. This is book one of a trilogy, so you won't need to have read/listened to anything previously to enjoy the tale, but you will want to read the remainder of the series as it comes out!

Professionally written and performed

Pacing on point. This story hangs suspense and consequence in a great balance with progression and character development. Piers Ryman nails every character to a unique fitting voice.

The story does a great job filling a universe with several different unique races, that for the most part, can't even be in the same atmosphere of each other without personal life support. This is no cookie cutter sci-fi.

Hardship, Excitement, and Love.

Started listening to this just before going to sleep thinking the calm voice would lull me to sleep. Instead I was pulled into a world that captivated me into listing all night in bed. Now I'll be seeking out the other written stories to see the rest of this universe.

very pleased

The voice actor has done a wonderful job, and the story was superbly entertaining for myself. I loved the voices, I was engaged, and I didn't feel too rushed and felt engrossed in the story.
