Publisher's summary

Let's get down to it. Everyone wants to be happy. Seriously.

Happiness may mean different things to different people, and those different people may go about it differently, but in the end we all want it. We all want to feel good.

Despite this...despite us all working so hard to find it, the reality is that many of us aren't happy. Or we're not as happy as we could be be...and as often as we could be. Somehow happiness, a simple concept we learned as children, has become an elusive and frustrating aspiration. And, far too often and without even knowing it, the thing standing smack dab in its way is us.

Tough Truths is a little book that packs a happiness punch, tackling the topic by giving the straight scoop on how we tend to contribute to it...and get in its way. It also provides specific tips, examples, and even one simple mathematical ratio to help you get to greater happiness.

Because, seriously, who doesn't want that?

10 Simple Truths to Light Up the Path

OK, we all know how to be happy, right? So, what is holding us back? The Ten Tough Truths about Happiness uses simple, straight talk, infused with a sense of humor, to light up the path. The length of the book is perfect. It breezes past a century of research on the psychology of happiness and delivers instead a handy toolkit on what we can do today to get comfortable with the uncomfortable: that 6-letter word “change”. We are encouraged to be curious, to stop comparing ourselves to others, and to not believe our own reasons why we can’t change. Most importantly, it helps absolve our guilt over no longer doing things simply because we have convinced ourselves that we should. This book is a catalyst for all of us that need a roadmap to move outside of our head, beyond our fear of upsetting the status quo, and to take the next step to find a more fulfilling and, yes, happy life. It is a great book for any commute, but fair warning: you may find yourself heading for the nearest coffee shop instead of your next energy-draining commitment.
