Publisher's summary

Life at the academy just got...messy.

I've always dreamed of getting into a top college, but after a stint in juvie, my school prospects went sideways fast. Now I work at a magic academy...as a janitor. Ironic, right?

Okay, so maybe I get a kick out of secretly solving the arcane equations the professors leave on the board for the rich, entitled student wizards. I'm broke, not stupid.

Except then I get caught by the hottest mage on campus...who ropes me into helping him and his three equally gorgeous friends win a decidedly screwed-up magic competition.

Easy enough, I think - until I start setting things on fire and getting chased by smoke-faced monsters and fighting side by side with four of the sexiest, most powerful wizards ever...and find myself - just maybe - falling in love....

With all of them.

Whoops.

interesting

Light, pnr with some angst, a little steam, and a lot of magic. I was disappointed that only the prologue was narrated by Alexander Cendese as Connor. The rest of the book was from the fmc pov, and the 2ish spicy scenes fell flat in her narration. This was an entertaining break from reality, and I'm curious enough about what happens to check out the next book.

I prefer the book.

The narration was kind of weird. Everyone sounds like preteens with this voice actor and it was so annoying. DNF for the voice acting alone.

Engaging with a few negatives

Liked: It's a good premise with interesting and likeable characters. It seems to be building to a good story arc.
Disliked: The Mage Trials have a LitRPG feel. I'm not a fan. The explicit sex adds zero to the book. Like in the movies, it's hard to get that right and it keep it from being a bore. The narrator reads perfectly. I just find the smokers voice out of place.
