The world is suddenly thrown into chaos as a research project is sabotaged and the dead come alive to feast on the living - it seems like an old story, doesn’t it? The Apocalypse Crusade is not that book. You are not suddenly thrust into a world gone mad. Instead, you get front-row seats to how the sh-t went down. In real time you are witness to the agony and the horror…and the terrible stupidity that made it all possible.

A zombie book lacking in zombies
My husband and I have listened to the whole series that lead up to this book, and we were very disappointed in the direction the author took in this installment. This book barely involved the characters interacting with the undead, and mostly focused on the group of survivors that have assembled over the series. While that would have been ok, the choice to then center the story around a drug dealer who is sex trafficking women (and sometimes going into graphic detail) was just too much. We had enjoyed the series up to this point, but are seriously considering not buying future books by this author because of our disappointment with this one.

This book was awful on so many levels.
I really hated this book. I excused the use of a not name for her villain "The Suit" in the first three books, but now the noble lord? She ruined a good series with this crap storyline. It's such a lazy move in the writing. The breakdown of society would create war lords, but this is what was written?

This series has been 50/50 for me.
The first book wasn’t great but I was told that they got better. I really liked the second and third books. The writing for Alex just so poor. She’s supposed to be the leader of the group and this family is all highly trained. I understand everyone needs to help working around the compound. With that said Alex leaves Max who is one of the best fighters there to garden while she goes on a multi day scavenging trip. I’m completely fine with this being unrealistic. I also like books with magic, elves, and dragons. However things need to be logical with in the world you have created for these characters.

This is the first book that has a good transition between scenes.
When Alex is handcuffed to the bed, the Lord guy is approaching her when there’s an explosion outside. The next scene is her friends/family setting up and going into get her. 🤙🏽🤙🏽
Almost every book I read has the setup right before something traumatic is about to happen a character. Then the scene goes to the character leading up to the explosion. It’s not exciting because we already know the character is about to be saved. No suspense.
Having Alex in a bad situation without knowing where the others were helped make the explosion dramatic.

Loved it but...
I like the story and the narrator is excellent. That said, was it necessary to call the idiot character "the noble lord"? The repeated reference to "the noble lord" almost ruined the book for me. A name would have worked just as well. "The suit" is bad enough but 2 unnamed characters is just annoying

Excellent
My favourite genre is post apocalyptic. My favourite series of books is The Undead by Haywood.
This series is a close second and I have listened to many series in this genre. As well as excellent character development and an exciting, fast paged narrative, the author actually goes into the origin of the virus and we learn how it was released and there is a doctor/scientist involved from the start who is continuously researching the evolution of the virus. Many books in this genre are missing the whole virus origin and scientific aspect. Maybe it is because authors don’t know how to approach it but I like w complete narrative with a beginning and a reason for what has happened.
I only have one small criticism which is common in this genre and that relates to the violence. I think the torture scenes are way too extreme and I would have been happier if they hadn’t been quite so depraved. It’s hard to listen to in parts.
