Publisher's summary

Picture Don Corleone in Mario Puzo’s The Godfather. Throw in the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre and the murders of John F. Kennedy, Lee Harvey Oswald, Marilyn Monroe, Bugsy Siegel, Sam Giancana, Lucky Luciano, Tony the Ant Spilotro, Johnny Roselli, and Jimmy Hoffa. Toss in Hollywood scandal and the mobbed-up career of Frank Sinatra and his Rat Pack. Now you can begin to grasp the epic story of Tony Accardo.

Why has this story never been told?

Accardo killed everyone in his path: family, friends, cops, reporters, movie stars, and politicians. Operating from deep within the shadows, Tony influenced national policy, exploited the FBI, owned politicians, and fixed presidential elections.

Connected to every gangster from Al Capone to Lucky Luciano to John Gotti, Tony Accardo Is Joe Batters is the must-listen that every Godfather fan is craving.

Good Book. Bad Audio

The book and story are great. But the audio is poorly recorded with background hum/noise and mouse clicks heard. Words are inserted in different audio occasionally and throw off the experience.

Eric delivers Neil’s Batters

If anyone ever wondered about the actuality of the Chicago mob, this audiobook is for you. Eric DeLauro convincingly narrates and does multiple mob personalities which captivates the listener. Neil Gordon’script is authentic. I would recommend this audiobook to a bunch of my friends and my brother. What I didn’t like?- all that violence. I have to say , though, it isn’t a book about boy scouts so the violence comes with the territory.

You’ll learn so much!

Really enjoyed this book! The amount of research done to provide so much history surrounding these stories is impressive. You will learn about many topics in this book, ranging from the St. Valentines Day massacre, the rat pack, Monroe, JFK, and more. Definitely worth the read!

Fun but is it real?

This is goof but theres so many mistakes in details tht it makes u wonder. like he mentions some cia or fbi guy that died canoeing mysteriously in 1996 but says maybe spilotro did it. the ant died in 86’. so if he got that wrong….what else is wrong. there’s a bunch i know are off. its like he takes some speculation and runs with it as truth. also some details i have idea if they are known or could be true, like accardo going fishing with Hemingway etc..etc.. but if even most of its true then its worth listening to. the accents are TERRRRRRRRIBLE in some parts. but they kinda grow on u.

Fantastic Real-Life Crime Drama

So well-written... the style affords the reader brilliant imagery, making the read "an experience" and thoroughly immersing. The narrator has a gifted voice and style... I haven't yet bought an audible book that has a better combo of story and narrator... just Fantastic!!!

Lines from other mob movies and TV shows

The book was pretty good especially because of the fact that there aren’t too many books on Accardo. What did bother me is that the author seemed to use a lot of lines from past mob movies and TV shows. Because of the fact that the lines are very specific and that there are quite a few, in my opinion there are too many to be a coincidence. I believe there are several more but these are just a few off the top of my head.
Examples:

The Godfather: when describing Johnny Fontaine this author uses the same line to describe Frank Sinatra “olive oil voice and daggo charm”

Sopranos: “patience turn the mulberry plant to silk.”

Sopranos:” you’re only as good as your last envelope”

HBO Gotti movie: “I wasn’t put on this earth to make them rich and me poor”

HBO Gotti movie: “in your face cosa nostra”

Auditory Trash

I loved the story, you can hear the audio quality differences per line though including some clicks and someone coming in to fill words.
