Publisher's Summary

I’m too dark for her light.

I am who I am, and I won’t apologize for it.

I don’t know how to be...normal.

I have my reasons. I've been through hell. I've touched the flames themselves, and I've danced with the devil. Intimately.

Damnation torched my soul until it was black.

Then, I see her. I'm enthralled, but I can't speak to her. She's too pure. Too fragile. Too innocent. She doesn't need to see my torched soul. She doesn't need to taste my damnation.

I watch what I can't have. I swear I'll protect her. Even if she doesn't know I'm there. I get more...enthralled.

She loves books. I wonder if I could love them, too.

She loves wine. I imagine us sharing a glass.

Imagination. What a tease.

Enthralled. Entranced. Obsessed.

She feels me there. Sees me out of the corner of her eye. I'm the reason the hair on the back of her neck is standing up. But I stay in the shadows where I belong.

Until I can't. Until the day I see her cry.

Those tears feel like open wounds. I want to heal them. But all she does is run. So, I follow.

Enthralled.

Entranced.

Obsessed.

Ruthless.

I won't stop until she no longer has a reason to cry. Even if it means I have to ride through the fires of hell one more time.

🖤Deliciously dark, twisted, and raw love story!🖤

Gahhh..Tongue is hands down the best MC Romance book I’ve ever listened to. I am vested in all of the characters in K.L. Savages The Ruthless Kings MC series, but Tongue has always had me intrigued, wanting to know more about what made him the way he is, who is he truly, and I knew there was so many layers to this character. Well, K.L. Savage did not disappoint on this crazy ride as we first find out what happened to Tongue growing up that made him the man he is today. It was truly heartbreaking what happened to him as a child, and his internal monologue gutted me. I’ve always knew there was more to him than just a ruthless killer, cutting peoples tongues out, lurking in dark corners, etc. Never judge a book by its cover. Tongue knows he is damaged, he feels misunderstood, and wants to be better. Especially when he sees Daphne for the first time through the bookstore window where she works. He’s obsessed, he stalks her, watches her from the shadows. Daphne can sense someone is watching her, feels a presence. Tongue feels unworthy of her, he’s no good for her and tries to stay away. Well, he can’t. She has been the missing piece inside him that he’s been searching for. Right from the start she was never scared of him. I loved that Daphne was a very complex character, and do not want to give too much away about our Heroine. It kept me on my toes, as there are many twists in this story. They accepted eachother for who they both were and embraced it together. Their love is intense and all consuming. This book is a story that even psychopaths need love too, and I am so glad Tongue found his “Comet”. The sex scenes were incredible sexy, erotic, and dark. *blood play as well * As their story progresses they find huge bumps in the road in their journey together. This is so well written and so detailed, I was uncomfortable, sad, elated, and shed a few tears. All along with these characters!
As for the narration, Joe Arden as Tongue gave one of his best performances I’ve heard in a very long time. From the very beginning I felt all the feels right along with the story. He does an amazing job bringing this very dark, mentally damaged man who falls in love, and wants to be a better person to life. Some of the scenes were so intense, very intense, and he did such a fantastic job conveying and making you feel what he was feeling. Outstanding job! Maxine Mitchell who plays Daphne, WOW! Again, I was blown away with her amazing performance, and her character had so many layers, so many different emotions and situations. She is my favorite! These two are outstanding together in this, no one else could have done better in my opinion. This is a love story, a pretty wickedly wild one, but everyone deserves love. His darknesses wants to consume her light, and she wants his darkness to consume her. I’m just beyond in love with their story, with its ups and downs. The only thing left to say is I hope there is a book 2 of their story... I didn’t want this book to end!

Getting turned on by murder was too much...

I love this series, and I like these characters. I like KL Savage. It’s not my thing, but blood play is fine. BUT, the murder of some innocent guys / and their blood and blood play/ getting turned on by murder, etc. I know it exists, but it is sick and disturbing and I don’t want to read about it. That was too far for me.

not a fan of the ending

This book was wonderful...until the ending. It ended too randomly. It left me with so many questions. I became attached to Tongue, and I need to have more intimacy. Darn it.

Dark and twisted in the best way!!

I finished this story like 20 days ago, but I didn't want to immediately review the book. Honestly, Tongue's story is dark....like super really messed up dark. But it explains a lot about why Tongue is....well Tongue. He meets Daphne, who also has quite the childhood, and it's everything you wished for eight books, Tongue would find. She is strong for him and completely and absolutely perfect for our swamp kitty lover. I am very excited to read their second book to see more from this duo.

The narration was seriously the total best with Maxine Mitchell and Joe Arden ❤

Exciting and Intense

I should start by saying that this story does have some triggers. It's a twisted, exciting, and dark love story. If there were ever two souls that belonged together, it's Tongue and Daphne.

After his parents die in a car accident, sent as a toddler, Tongue is raised by his maternal uncle Jeremy or as he also likes to be called, Justine. His uncle has no regard for the welfare of his nephew and never sends him to school. This is only but one of the many forms of neglect young Tongue will face at the hands of his uncle.

Daphne adores books and works in a bookstore. She appears happy go lucky but looks can be deceiving as Daphne also harbors secrets. She leads a seemingly unexciting life until a silent stranger walks into her store and overpays for a book. Afterward, she can feel her stranger watching everywhere.

Tongue can't get Daphne off his mind. Except for his best friend Sarah, Daphne is the only other person he's felt any real emotion toward and he becomes obsessed. He too lurks in the shadows keeping a watchful eye over her.

But someone has threatened Daphne. Someone who Tongue thought he escaped from. This time, Tongue is prepared to fight to protect his rarest of possessions, his comet, his Daphne.

Joe and Maxine deliver yet another amazing performance. We are also treated to Scottish and Cajun accents again.

This is a really twisted tale.

This is the second book I have read in the series. I was not fond of the first book either. Tongue was an intriguing character in Reaper & Sarah's story. I skipped the rest of the books and listened to this one. This genre is definitely not for me. I didn't enjoy their twisted way of showing "love". I don't understand it, and more important I don't want. Joe Arden gave a stellar performance. Maxine Mitchell always sounds like she is whining. I will definitely not recommend this. I will definitely not listen to any more works in this series.
