Story
The explosion of a Chinese freighter - carrying illegal workers - in Charleston Harbor is the first sign that someone is capping Chinese interests abroad. After explosions in South Africa and Taipei, Op-Center roots out the cause: warring factions in the Chinese government. But still reeling from budget cuts and an almost devastating attack by an electromagnetic pulse explosion, Op-Center itself sustains a third hit: the removal of Commander Paul Hood, replaced by a three-star general from the Army. Op-Center is now under the control of the Pentagon.

Story
A terrorist bomb explodes during a South Korean celebration of the anniversary of the election of its first president. Alarms are raised in Washington. No one is claiming responsibility. The first suspect is North Korea. Could it be making a power play against South Korea and unification? If so, how will the U.S. respond? Paul Hood, Director of the Op-Center, must answer these questions. The Op-Center, a largely autonomous new agency which takes on the government's toughest security problems, is only six months old, and has never been given a foreign crisis until now.

Publisher's Summary
When a team of assassins murder a high-ranking North Korean general and his family in their sleep, making it look like a robbery, events are set in motion that could shake the balance of world powers. Meanwhile a US naval combat ship, the USS Milwaukee, is attacked by North Korean forces in the middle of a training exercise off the shore of South Korea, and Commander Kate Bigelow is forced to ground the ship to avoid being captured.
The crew takes refuge on a tiny island, trapped dangerously between the grounded ship and a fleet of hostile North Korean soldiers. Op-Center intelligence discovers a secret alliance behind the attack - a pact between China and North Korea that guarantees China total control of a vast oil reserve found beneath the Yellow Sea. As both sides marshal their forces for a major confrontation at sea, Chase Williams and his Op-Center organization devise a plan to spirit the American crew secretly from the island and out from under North Korean control. But the North Koreans are not finished.
In a desperate gamble, they unleash a terrorist cell on the American homeland. Only Op-Center can uncover their plan and stop it in time to prevent a major catastrophe that could lead to all-out war.

Unkept waiting for it to get better but it didn't. The story took a long time to get moving. And, then the bit about the United Nations really no nexus to the first 3/4 of the book. Don't waste your time.

Into the fire dissappoints
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Perhaps some ladies over tea.
Would you ever listen to anything by Dick Couch and George Galdorisi again?
I have listened to four of the Dick Couch series. The Pines +++
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Henry Leyva?
Dick Hill
Any additional comments?
The story was slow paced, too much dithering by the principle characters. This is a military story with many weak characters.

this writer appeared and sounded like somebody that did not have a
Clue what people actually sound like or act like when they are engaged in
Some type of combat.
They do not do the "yes sir or no sir" when in a fire fight.
