Publisher's summary

In a twist of fate, a young Latino girl acquires a strange gift and can control time only for herself.

Penny reminds us: "Time is strange, and I would have thought it had many paths, but for some reason, you can't go back. My path leads to ruin." Penny's only hope, she thought, was to steal a "time machine" and go to an unknown future, where she finds things become more terrible than she ever thought possible.

Penny then takes the time to tell us her story. With the nature of what time is, the trip can lead only one way. There is no path back home.

Great Start to A Sci-Fi Adventure

Refreshingly fast paced. Great start for (hoping) a series of short stories that continue "La Sombra's" adventure. Without spoiling the read, I enjoyed the evolution of a girl who gains a 'power' as the story progresses into a sci-fi whirlwind. A novella with layers. I look forward to what comes next.

Must Know More!

The first part of the story was setting up to a momentous ending. The character Penny is very relatable and her thoughts and feelings are vividly expressed. The ending is definitely not "the end" of this story. Can't wait for more!

Great Sci-Fi Story

This author must have been a real Sci-Fi fan in his youth by bringing back my memories of old movies like "The Time Machine" and all "Star Trek" ones. Good read, ready to read or listen to Book 2. I will place him on my list of new "upcoming authors".

Good YA setup

This is a good setup for a Young Adult time travel and invisibility series. YAs will enjoy it, I think I was expecting a bit more. It's a tale well told, with good narration by Jennifer Walls.

I was provided a free review copy of this audiobook by Audiobooks Unleashed, in exchange for my honest review.

Interesting Start

This is a very interesting story with lots of fascinating and fun concepts. The format is rather unique in the audiobook world. I've talked to the author, and he explained his vision for audiobooks that are adapted to maintain the pace of films and television. This is a fascinating idea, and I look forward to listening to his future works.

Leaves you wanting more.

While I do wish the story had been more developed so I could really sink my teeth into what makes La Sombra tick, I was not disappointed with my decision to listen. The pace is quite fast, and I was impressed with science behind the “time slips” in the story. A lot was going on and I did want to slow down and savor it more, but o guess that is a good sign that it was well written. Hopefully this will become just a chapter in a larger work devoted to these characters:

My own assement of my novella ...

As to my producer, Jennifer Walls, this was a 5 star performance. She is an awesome VO actor. I am very pleased with her performance.

Now for The author : me

I do see where I could have made this different and perhaps better. I found I like to shoot for a film length audio production. So I have to set the pace and end on target in about 16,000 words.

This is a rather short novella. Most movies, as film, are abridged from books to fit in a one and a half hour production. This is my first book in that philosophy. It reads like a book. But narrated, it sounds really great I hope as it constructed to be a fast paced story with a lot going on, and ends up being s a fast exciting narrated (audio) story for you I hope Listening is different from reading. They are two different experiences.

People have a beginning where they start a journey and find themselves. (in this story, Penny seems to have a gift and some faults.) This is Penny's beginning.

Penny's story, in this story, ended badly for her. She has some things to learn; being honest or more cleaver with what she knows is one, and not be so obviously naive is another, But she is inexperienced as she is a Catholic orphan girl and has never really had the chance to explore real life situations on her own..She finds she now has an edge and is also at an age where she needs to define herself.. She is very talented and has this Zorro'esk cavalier attitude..

It is a science fiction tale. Time and Time Travel is involved. It is a teen to young adult story and a coming of age experience. Not one of romance but of dealing with one's own ambitions and having to deal with a reality that seems to be set against you as things do not always work out as planned.

I do have a sequel coming where Penny is now wiser and more determined but finds herself in a strange futuristic world she has to deal with. Technology changes what you can do, but people remain the same.. Enough on that for now.

I hope you enjoy listening to "Time Stands Still : La Sombra". If you liked it, you may like the sequel better as it is heavier science fiction and situational conflicts are always present.

Thanks for listening.
Frank

Great book!

This book was very interesting. I loved the narration. My kids enjoyed listening as well. Keep it up! When is the next one? The science and information about Time and time travel is amazing. I've always wondered what it would be like if you could become invisible and this book lets you explore that idea through the character. This made my kids talk on and on about super powers or what they would do if they could become invisible or where they would go if they could travel through time. The book gives you some fun topics to explore with anybody and enjoy hours of conversation after.
