Publisher's Summary

Espionage was nothing new to Captain Larry McGraw and the crew of the USS Charlotte, a Los Angeles class fast-attack submarine. But this mission certainly was. Docked onto the hull of his sub was the new, state-of-the-art Advanced SEAL Delivery System, complete with 16 highly trained SEALs. Orders from the White House were simple, yet clear. Penetrate the Bo Hai Bay - a mere 100 miles from Beijing - and linger while the SEALS conduct nighttime missions. Simple, as long as they weren't detected. But if spotted inside the shallow bay, the orders were clear. McGraw couldn't let the Charlotte or the ASDS fall into Chinese hands, even if it meant destroying both.

Good story but a little hard to follow.

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the narrator.

I was intrigued by the description of this book. A political thriller/naval intelligence.
I am surrounded by a military lifestyle daily so my interest in this book was great.

To be honest, the first several chapters had me wondering if I was going to be able to get through the entire book and then it picked up and I couldn't wait to find out what happened next.
Navy Seals and submarines, Chinese freighters and kidnapped Chinese women. My curiosity peaked and I needs to hear more.
It was a great Naval Intelligence story!

I extremely impressed with narrator, he told the story like he was living it himself.

Overall, great book!

Wow!!!

This audiobook was a very intriguing and gripping story. I have not listened to many submarine thrillers besides Clive Cussler's Numa series or Tom Clancy's Hunt for Red October. I found this author and both narrators very talented. I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator. This story is part of a series and yet a standalone book. I do not like to give away spoilers in my reviews. That said, the ending to me seemed somewhat of a cliffhanger with the loose ties.

Great Military Thriller

This was a very good military thriller. Another review said it reminded them of Clive Cussler or Tom Clancy and I couldn't agree more. The story follows that of a submarine and a SEAL team on a secret mission in Chinese waters. While on the mission, they make an astounding discovery and they are in a race to figure it out. I couldn't put this one down and thought that the story, characters, and writing were all excellent.

The narrator did a very good job as well. He was perfect for this book.

5 stars all around!

I requested and received a free copy of this audiobook from the author, publisher, or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review. I was NOT required to write a positive review and this reflects my honest opinion of the work.

Good storyline that kept me interested

I enjoyed the story of our military at work. Covert operations is always intriguing to me.

Seals on a Mission

When the USS Charlotte is sent to Bo Hai Bay with the Advance Seal Delivery System (ASDS) Captain McGraw expected things to get tense. What he didn't expect was to find a ship graveyard or kidnapped Chinese women or a secret the Chinese will kill to keep hidden. The discovery of the women leads to a discovery of an explosive new device that the Charlotte needs to figure out fast...or risk starting WWIII!

I enjoyed this listen. It kept my interest and I wanted to know how it ended. The listen is a definite set up for a series as nothing is decided and not many answers are given when the end comes. The characters are well drawn and have a depth that pulls you into the story. It is a fun clandestine, secret ops story that gives you enough to keep you interested but doesn't give away any secrets. You will definitely have to listen to the 2nd installment if you want to know much of anything.

The narration was good and Richard Rieman was able to differentiate between the characters so that you knew who was speaking at any given time. The Chinese women were somewhat stereotypical (I was hoping one of them would offer surprising assistance or resistance) but the voices were decent and didn't take me out of the story. I had to slow this one down to 1.25 as Rieman talks more quickly than my normal 1.5 listening speed could handle.

I received this audiobook for free through Audiobook Boom! in exchange for an honest review.

A wonderfully engrossing story & top notch listen!

What did you like best about this story?

This story was easy to get into and stay hooked until the end. There were no lulls in the action which built steadily until the end. The characters were fleshed out and took on a life of their own. Military based stories are not my go to entertainment, but I really enjoyed this one and I'll snatch up the next one in this series as soon as it's released.

Something just wasn't right

I have mixed feelings about this audiobook. The storyline is interesting and kept me interested, but the dialog was horrendous. I don't know if the author or narrator is to be blamed for this. They made the SEALS sound like buffoons and the Chinese woman couldn't be more stereotypical.

As is true with a lot of stories; great concept, but lacked in execution. This could have easily been a 4 star review, had the dialog been more realistic.

I also don't see where this story can continue after this, it didn't really leave me wanting to know what happened next.

I did receive this book free of charge in exchange for an unbiased review, but I believe I have done.
