The explosive sequel to the Greig Beck blockbuster Fathomless. Cate Granger is chasing ghosts. The monster shark she once encountered was a remnant of the ancient world - one that had escaped an underwater lair previously sealed off for millions of years. At great cost, Cate and her allies had killed the beast. So, no more ghosts, no more shadows. All gone. Or so Cate thought.

100,000 years ago the object hit the lake at the deepest point, quickly sinking into its mile-deep Stygian darkness. The sheets of ice closed, time moved on and the land forgot. But over the centuries, legends grew of people vanishing, of strange, deformed animals and of an unexplained luminescence down in the lake depths. When Marcus Stenson won the lucrative contract to create a sturgeon fish farm on the site of disused paper mill on the shore of Lake Baikal, he thought he had won the lottery and refused to listen to the chilling folktales....

Publisher's Summary
In the aftermath of a hurricane, a series of strange events plague the coastal waters off Florida. People go into the water and never return. Corpses of killer whales drift ashore, ravaged from enormous bite marks. A fishing trawler is found adrift, with a mysterious gash in its hull.
Transferred to the coastal town of Merit, police officer Leonard Riker uncovers the horrible reality of an enormous thresher shark lurking off the coast. Forty feet in length, it has taken a territorial claim to the waters near the town harbor. Armed with three-inch teeth, a scythe-like caudal fin, and unmatched aggression, the beast seeks to kill anything sharing the waters.

WHAT A BRILLIANT SURPRISE!
I want to begin with the fact that even when I love the book, I normally do NOT write a full review! However, I could not stay silent about this!! I LOVE books like this!!
When I was much younger and the book “Meg” first came to the store shelves, I became addicted to this type of book. I honestly gave up on finding any other books that were like “Meg”, the “Loch” by Steve Alten, or like “Below” and “What Lurks Beneath” by Bryan Lockwood.
These books, while fiction, make you think that it actually COULD BE possible for these creatures to exist! These are the best type, in my opinion, and sadly, not every author can make the reader believe it the potential “what if’s”.
To my extreme surprise, Michael Cole and the “Thresher” lives up to Steve Alten, Ryan Lockwood, as well as Greg Beck with “Fathomless”, Paul E. Cooley with “The Black” series! Michael Cole was brilliant writing this book and Matt Godfrey remains one of my favorite narrators! Godfrey even pronounces the scientific terminology correctly! This book is worth the read and in listening!

A rare unable to finish title.
The story might have had some potential. But it's poorly executed. The characters are bland. The situations are cookie cutter. The dialogue is cheesy. And every aspect is highly predictable. The performance doesn't help much either, it's pretty sub-par. I tried to give it a chance I really did but with 4 hours to go I just couldn't do it anymore.

I liked the book. It was not the greatest, but it kept my interest and I found myself cheereing for our heroes at the end. I gave 5 stars in each category. Not because it was fantastic, but because I want more from the writer. I see a good continuing storyline. Keep up the good work.

Bloody Brilliant!
What a story! I was a little concerned in the first minute or 2 that it would be too vanilla. Just another giant animal story, and it is... but in a great way! The characters are deep and set up well, each with a rewarding back story. It has heroes, villains and anti-heros. There is a good twist and plenty of well paced action. I even got a shiver at one moment, no spoilers, but kids, boat, drone... chills!

Hmmmm......
Wanted to like this book, I love a creature feature but this book really does not offer anything new that has not been done better many times before. Stereotypical characters much like in a cheesy B movie, clunky dialogue and not enough shark. The story gets a little lost in the problems of the characters and where Benchley cleverly blurs the lines between who is the bigger Shark between his Great White and the greedy profiteers on the land unfortunately this is mess of “Dirty Harry” meets Jaws.
