Great Listen!

Both the author and narrator were new to me. I found that this mystery book was quite enjoyable and thought provoking. I liked the hidden romance in it as well and thought the character development and descriptions were great. Engaging Listen

To say I enjoyed Three Seconds to Rush would be almost wrong, since the situation presented in this book would truly be every mother's nightmare, but this is a book I will certainly listen to again.

The characters in this book draws you in, they are well developed and believable.

Tara wakes up, overdosed, confused and missing her son. She claims innocence and everyone sees guilt. She calls on an old friend, Reid who is a lawyer, whom she trusts to believe her regardless of what the evidence showed.

As the story unfolds, it holds your attention, twists your emotions and keeps you to the end.

The emotion of the narrator uses makes the story come alive, tugging at your own emotions as she reads. Laura Jennings is a master!

A New Twist to Romantic Suspense

If you could sum up Three Seconds to Rush in three words, what would they be?

Who is Piper Anderson? It's funny, but I really do not know why this is in the title. Piper is not a character in this story. Hmmmm...interesting.

What did you like best about this story?

I really liked the storyline and the smooth transition from present to past childhood memories. Not so easily done in audio, but Ms Jennings and Ms. Stewart made it work.

Which character – as performed by Laura Jennings – was your favorite?

I really enjoy Ms. Jennings storytelling style. Soft, but intriguing. She always knows how to keep my interest.

I liked the mix of mystery, suspense and romance Ms. Stewart weaves in this story. I would definitely pick up another book by Ms. Stewart.

Loved it!

I was hooked from the start. It was just enough of everything. The fighting spirit of the main character and how she wouldn't give in even when others thought it would be easier was great. I enjoyed the flashbacks that helped you understand their current attitudes. Narrator was awesome with the perfect inflection of anger, frustrated and sarcasm. It's worth it!

Kinda flat story with predictable end

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Not really. My friends are not book enthusiasts to begin with. And recommending a not-so-awesome book might fire back.

What about Laura Jennings’s performance did you like?

The voice was crisp and easy to listen to. Another mystery novel I had listened to earlier had the narrator speak in such a hushed voice with background noise that it was nearly impossible to follow the story.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Nope.

No Rush

There was no rush, no action, no anticipation to see what happens next.

Three Seconds to Rush

Three Seconds to Rush: Piper Anderson Legacy Mystery, Volume 1

This mystery is fairly quick to listen to. The characters are interesting to a point. Unfortunately the plot was predictable and I figured the villain from the beginning. I was a bit disappointed that there wasn't a big surprise twist. As this is volume one, I assume the next book to pick up where this on ends. I will give it a try to see if it has a bit more suspense.



The narration was well done.The characters were well portrayed. Laura Jennings voice was pleasant.

I got into Three Seconds to Rush very quickly which was a pleasant surprise. The story isn't too complicated, which I liked, but that's not a bad thing. Simplicity is enjoyable when well done, as this book is extremely well written - it's a simple premise, but with lots of potentially complicated explanations. A clean living and dedicated and loving Mother of a 3 year old boy is found in an alley near death with a heroine needle in her arm and her son nearly frozen in neglect. It was obvious to me that the Mother was the victim of some sort of crime, but there seemed to be no motive for such a random and cruel hoax to be perpetrated on a single Mom minding her own business after a trip to the grocery store. It was fun to figure it out along with her and her few friends as the story unfolded.

The story builds and builds, kind of like a reverse onion, adding one thin layer after another until pieces start falling into place. The main character was so fiercely loyal to her son that it was hard not to be on her side, even when she did things that made me want to slap her, like not at accepting government sponsored health insurance for herself and her son because her pride stood in the way. But I think that's just me reacting to her growth as a character - I OFTEN want to slap characters in books I read as they make mistakes and learn from them.

I will share one tiny oddity about this novel that is not a big enough deal to take any of the enjoyment away, but may be worth mentioning before you listen: The year when the story took place seems take place sometime after the year 2000, but rather non-committally so; that is to say, I could not figure out what year it was supposed to be! The main character had a cell phone, so I knew it had to be after the year 2000 or so, but she took a taxi (she was very poor) when she could have taken an Uber or Lyft if it took place after 2010 or 2011 and saved a fortune. It didn't bother me except at times when I thought, "Why didn't she use a ride sharing service to save money?" But if you can just consider the book to take place sometime between 2002 and 2010 and not worry about it, you'll be fine. I tend to nitpick details like that. And since this is my biggest criticism of the book, and it's such a small thing, I give it a five all around. The female narrator was great and part of the reason I was so entertained.

I don't want to give too much away in terms of the story development except to say that there were several unexpected turns that came just at the right time and kept me hooked to the point where I finished the book in about a day and a half, and that's pretty fast for me.

If you're looking for a book that draws you in quickly, that has mystery but also heart, and a good, satisfying ending that evolves naturally and doesn't feel pasted on (like endings sometimes do), this is the book for you.

Just okay. I knew who did it in the first chapter

I love mysteries. They don't have to be complex; just enough to keep me guessing until about the midpoint. I hate when I know the whodunnit early.

The way this story set up, the whodunnit was easy to spot (for me) in the first chapter. I had no way of knowing how it would unfold, of course, or why but I definitely knew the who. The joy in this listen then, was the narration. It was very well done and fit the material. I just could have used a bit more mystery.

Suspenseful

I really enjoyed this book. It was a suspense and kind of thriller novel with an easily predictable twist (I guessed it in the second chapter), but enjoyable plot nonetheless.

Tara wakes up in hospital after an overdose, having never used drugs. She then embarks on a journey in order to retain custody of her son, Wylie, with the help of defence attorney and childhood friend Reid, who isn't altogether convinced of her innocence, and Reid's investigative friend Willow.

Tara was a well characterised character, even if at times she annoyed me. I much preferred Willow and Reid, especially Reid, who was very much a flawed individual.

The narrator, Laura Jennings, was also brilliant. Every character felt like they had distinctive voices and it felt much easier to sympathise with Tara through the narration.
