Anything can happen at a carnival...especially in a town full of witches, vampires, and werewolves.

Dove has spent her life feeling like an outsider. Being the only self-taught witch in her coven, she has to work twice as hard to fit in and accept the customs of her magical society. Still, she does her best to follow the rules.

It’s not all bad. Her boyfriend, Damon, loves her and makes her feel less alone. There’s just one problem: He’s a vampire. And after a dark history of massacring witches, their relationship goes against all the rules.

They are desperate for a night of fun, but Dove is afraid of risking her good standing with the coven, or worse, getting exiled and having her magic and memories erased.

The annual Halloween carnival seems like the perfect opportunity. They can dress in disguise and her tarot reading assured her they could pull it off.

Can they enjoy a night out and feel like every other couple for once? Or will one night out risk everything?

This was my first experience with Heather Dowell's work, and I found it entertaining. Dove, a witch, wanted to go on a date with her boyfriend, a vampire, but their species were at war for witches had a long history of being massacred by vampires. The story was short. I liked the paranormal beings which populated this story as they just wanted to be together, but they had to fight the prevailing status quo. Gary Murrell's narration was fair. There were times when his performance sounded muddled to me. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review which included my opinions.
