A Classic By A True Trailblazer!

This Rough Magic is a fabulous read narrated to perfection by Helen Johns. I loved this audiobook and felt it was perfect in every regard. It was written in a totally different era from ours, but holds up beautifully in this current market. I’ve already ordered the other newly released novel by Ms. Stewart and anticipate that I’ll enjoy it just as much as I enjoyed this one. Truly, I devoured the audiobook and felt bereft when it was over!

Enchanting

Love the way she developed her characters & brought to life the culture of the Greek Isles...the plot was very captivating & first time through had me listening half the night! I also thoroughly enjoyed the intelligent conversations & respectful relationships of the main characters.

Such a pleasure

I have been waiting for years for the Mary Stewart "adventure romances" to be on tape. This is an excellent book, and I really enjoyed the narrator. Will listen to it many times. More please!

Mary Stewart Classic

I am so glad audible is releasing one of my favorite authors of all time! This is such a great well written mystery from a MASTER writer ! I hope the rest of her books will follow Especially my 3 favorites" Airs Above The Ground", "Moon Spinners",
and "My Brother Michael" No one compares to MS. The narration was perfect.

Mary Stewart is timeless

I fell in love with Mary Stewart 50 years ago. She was the master of romantic suspense. I enjoyed this audiobook, but felt that the narrator did a wonderful job on all the characters except the heroine. She seemed very weak.

Shakespeare, romance, intrigue

What starts out as an idyllic Greek holiday turns into romance and danger. The lazy start belies the mystery to come. Not saying that it starts out slow and boring but it lulls you into thinking things won't be too dramatic. But sit back, the excitement is coming and the pace will accelerate. Don't let the literary allusions fool you into thinking that the author can't write action scenes. Only wish she had set some background to prepare the reader for heroine's experience with yachts.

Only quibble is the colonialist tone of the middle 20th century is rather embarrassing.

A bit old fashioned for some, but just as good as it was when I read it as a teenager. I’m a pretty big Mary Stewart fan, and this is one of her best. I’ve never had the chance to hear it read; the narrator did a great job.
