Tremendous Historical Fiction

Katherine Locke seemed to have such a grasp of the beauty of the people and the country; she truly did her homework in studying the history of the Hungarian Revolution. The main character's connection to the river and to Budapest gave this novel a magical touch while bringing to life a seldom written-about time. The colors of the city returning during the falling rain was possibly one of the most beautiful scenes I have ever read.
As an added bonus, the narrator, Kathleen Gati is of Hungarian heritage. Her parents fled the 1956 revolution so this is something very close to her. Her narration was SO heart felt. The connection between Gati and Budapest was palpable. I'm not sure it Katherine Locke knew this when selecting a narrator but she could not have found anyone better to bring THIS REBEL HEART to life.
