Wow!
A really gripping story, with different twists on the typical mystery genre. As an avid reader of “true crime” style books, this story was really refreshing and I will definitely be reading more of the author’s works.
I only rated the narrator 4 stars because she overenunciates certain words (sick, stomach) which is just a bit annoying. Overall great performance, though.

Not disappointed but meh
Without revealing any spoilers, I just feel like there were lots of loose ends left. The author tried to tie them all up but I ended up with some unanswered questions anyway. Also, some themes were very repetitive. I think there were full paragraphs and sentences reused that just felt like grasping for more content.
Overall, not bad but not super thrilled by this book. The narrator was good!

Heather's Best So Far
This book has all the elements of a crime thriller that I like. It starts out with a punch and keeps the action coming the whole book, There were several characters that you are made to believe could have done the big nasty. Finally, there were plenty of twists and turns throughout the book that kept introducing new aspects to the story,
I'm a native Iowan from a small town much like Grotto. One cultural aspect of Iowa is the term 'Iowa nice' where in general the people are considered to be genuinely nice people. In some of the author's earlier books there were some good mysteries but Iowa nice seemed to pervade a bit too much. Iowa has as many nasty people as anywhere else. The author did a good job of bridging that gap in this one.
I really enjoyed this book and look forward to the next.
