Enemies to...bodyguard duty?

Sergeant Nix Marr is a damn good soldier, but she's desperate to leave her haunted past in the bioluminescent ocean, buried alongside old friends...and old flames. Unfortunately, even the icy ocean can't extinguish some fires. When Kessandra, everyone's favorite princess—and Nix's loathed ex—requests Nix's help investigating a massacre in the abyssal city of Fall, Nix refuses. Vehemently.

But Kessandra always gets what she wants.

Consigned to being Kessandra's bodyguard, Nix grudgingly boards a luxurious submersible that offers the only transportation to Fall. It's frustrating, irritating, how quickly Nix and Kess fall back in sync—much as she tries to fight, Nix can't deny their spark. But Kessandra wasn't truthful—surprise, surprise—and Nix quickly realizes their "investigation" isn't about the massacre, but rather what caused it: an illness that incites its victims into a violent craze.

When another royal is brutally murdered, it becomes apparent the disease has spread—and no one on the submersible is safe. Suddenly, survival hinges on trusting each other, which would be a hell of a lot easier if Kessandra didn't keep lying. Injured, fighting for their lives, Nix has to decide if she can trust Kessandra again...and what she'll lose this time.

This book is a heart-pounding science fantasy with a swoon-worthy sapphic romance. With its blend of fantasy and technology, it's a hit for any fans of sexy sapphic romance.

More please!

A little bit of “Bioshock,” a little bit of “Game of Thrones.” Excellent world building with believable and flawed characters. Sequel! NOW!

OMG!

I loved this book! I was so worried because it ends on something of a cliffhanger. I must say it is one of the best books I ever listened to. The characters are the best, the romance is sizzling, and the story keeps you hooked. I just hate it ends on kinda a cliffhanger because I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS MAN! I want to know that ofc has their happy ending and their dream wedding and all is better. Still I am so glad to have this story, and I can't wait to see what happens next!

Unexpected

Didn’t know what to expect. I came across this book at random and I am so happy I gave it a chance. Narration is excellent, characters are believable and memorable, writing is engaging, and the world is so freaking cool. Seriously, the book is worth the credit/money. Really, really looking forward to more from this author.

What a book!

I went in not knowing what to expect, and enjoyed every moment. The narration was amazing and the plot kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Great work by both Rebecca Thorne and Natalie Naudus! I look forward to the rest of the series!

Holy Toledo

I LOVED these characters. I love the chemistry. It stops at a reasonable Segway story line wise but holy cliffhanger Batman! Give me more!!!

Addictive

All the major tropes make an appearance for perfection. Rebecca Thorne builds a beautiful world that is almost like steampunk meets Poseidon 1972 version. Which happens to be my favorite. The princess is just enough of a bitch for me to fall in love with her and you won’t believe where this story leads to in the end.

Literally so Obsessed

It's so great when you have a book you love and then it gets an audio narration that makes it equally as good. I loved having a voice to a story that has become one of my all time favorites of this year. Such a phenomenal story and narration!

The Audible was as awesome as the book

One of the best queer sci-fi books I’ve read in a long time. This genre is lacking in good Audiobooks. Natalie Naudus is a new narrator to me. I hope I get to listen to other books she’s narrated. She did an amazing job making the characters come to life.
