Publisher's summary

Mindy McGinnis, award-winning author of The Female of the Species and A Madness So Discreet, returns with a new dark and twisted psychological thriller - perfect for fans of Gone Girl and Fight Club.

Sasha Stone knows her place - first-chair clarinet, top of her class, and at the side of her Oxford-wearing boyfriend. She's worked her entire life to ensure her path to Oberlin Conservatory as a star musician is perfectly paved. But suddenly there's a fork in the road in the shape of Isaac Harver. Her body shifts toward him when he walks by, and her skin misses his touch even though she's never known it. Why does he act like he knows her so well - too well - when she doesn't know him at all?

Sasha discovers that her by-the-book life began by ending the chapter of another: the twin sister she absorbed in the womb. But that doesn't explain the gaps of missing time in her practice schedule or the memories she has of things she certainly never did with Isaac. Armed with the knowledge that her heart might not be hers alone, Sasha must decide what she's willing to do - and who she's willing to hurt - to take it back.

Amazing!!!

Loved the character, it reminded me of Amy Elliot Dunne from Gone Girl.
Some parts were a little too long, too dense, that's why I didn't give it 5 stars. However, if it weren't for that, the book is awesome. It has that touch of rawness very characteristic of Mindy McGinnis. If you're into dark, manipulative main characters who even manage to pull the reader's strings through the book, then please read this novel.

Unexpected

This was a rollercoaster ride! The main character is so incredibly hard to love, but I kind of appreciate that. Most authors try to give them redeeming qualities, but this girl had none and that is a lot more relatable, I think. I was shocked pretty much throughout the entire book.

The narrator was fabulous!

This Dark, Half Mine...

What if Stephen King's The Dark Half was YA & Thad Beaumont was a high-school chick? Read this book to find out... I kept expecting a reference to sparrows... there were other nods to King, be they intentional or not: every King Constant Reader has no doubt noticed the often used "swallowed with an audible click" where as for McGinnis it is someone shutting their mouth and the jaw makes the "audible click"
With all that said, as a life long Constant Reader myself, I'm not mad at it... Mindy McGinnis has the writing skills to do such a book justice.

I finished too quickly!

That was a great book! although I finished it too quickly... I just couldn't "put it down" so to speak. Brittany dis a great performance as well. I will be looking into her other books that she has performed.

Not what I expected at all.

Every time I thought I knew what was going to happen, it had another surprise waiting for me. Was a really great listen right before Halloween.

This story is fu#%ed up. It is not poorly written. Somewhat predictable but decent story if u are into reading about a COMPLETELY crazy messed up person with no hope...

Social worker says nope

I was really getting into this on the beginning and loved the charter and the way it was going. then it wa like my heart was ripped out. The social worker used "how does that make you feel" so many times I wanted to stab my ears. As a social worker it's the biggest stereotype of the field.

What on Earth did I just read?!

I wanted it to be good. It started well. It took a turn and I thought surely it'd get better, but it got worse and worse.
