She’s a paranormal private eye and grim-reaper-in-training who’s known to be a bit of a hell-raiser, especially after a few shots of caffeine. Her beloved Reyes may be the only begotten son of evil, but he’s dark and sultry and deeply sexy and everything Charley could hope for. Really. Story
A smashing, award-winning debut novel that introduces Charley Davidson: part-time private investigator and full-time Grim Reaper. Charley sees dead people. That’s right, she sees dead people. And it’s her job to convince them to “go into the light”. But when these very dead people have died under less than ideal circumstances (i.e. murder), sometimes they want Charley to bring the bad guys to justice. Complicating matters are the intensely hot dreams she’s been having about an Entity who has been following her all her life...and it turns out he might not be dead after all.

And since those gods are on earth to kill her daughter, she has little choice but to track them down, trap them, and cast them from this dimension. There's just one problem. One of the three stole her heart a very long time ago.

Charley Davidson, Grim Reaper extraordinaire, is pissed. She’s been kicked off the earthly plane for eternity - which is the appropriate amount of time to make a person stark-raving mad. Publisher's Summary
Third in the award-winning paranormal series that’s “hilarious and heartfelt, sexy and surprising.” (J.R. Ward)
Paranormal private eye. Grim reaper extraordinaire. Whatever. Charley Davidson is back in Darynda Jones' Third Grave Dead Ahead! And she’s drinking copious amounts of caffeine to stay awake because, every time she closes her eyes, she sees him: Reyes Farrow, the parthuman, part-supermodel son of Satan. Yes, she did imprison him for all eternity, but come on. How is she supposed to solve a missing persons case, deal with an ego-driven doctor, calm her curmudgeonly dad, and take on a motorcycle gang hellbent on murder when the devil’s son just won’t give up?

I love Charley Davidson!!!
What did you love best about Third Grave Dead Ahead?
Pretty much everything.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Third Grave Dead Ahead?
The beginning chapters where Charley is sleep deprived.
What does Lorelei King bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
So much! Lorelei King is one of my top two favorite narrators. She does an excellent job!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes, it definitely had me laughing! I don't know that I've ever laughed harder while reading (listening to) a book.
Any additional comments?
I've said it before, but I'll say it again: I LOVE this series!! I just can't get enough of Charley & company. In the beginning of this book, Charley is almost delirious from not sleeping for almost two weeks straight, and I have to say that it was maybe my favorite piece of fiction ever. It was brilliant!! I laughed and laughed. I just love Darynda Jones' style of writing. I love the way Charley thinks. I'm a huge fan of the Stephanie Plum series, but I have to say that I love this one even more.
The cast of characters is just amazing! I love every one of them. I can't wait to see where this series goes from here. I'm so sad for Garrett. I feel so bad for Charley, and I'm frustrated with Reyes. (he better step it up) I definitely hope things start looking up for Charley and I can't wait to learn more about "what she's capable of."
Oh, and the mystery was slightly predictable, but that's never the main draw for me when it comes to these types of books.

flippin' fantastic!
if you haven't discovered this series you need to start it ASAP! the books just keep getting better and better! "Third Grave Dead Ahead" is the best one so far. all of the characters draw you in. it is a unique paranormal story with mystery, terrific dialog, humor, and super sexy too! i finished this one in two days, i would have finished it sooner if it weren't for the pesky need for food and i had to go to work to buy the food..vicious cycle...this is sooo worth getting, you won't be disappointed! The narration is really good too. Lorelei King is very good at bringing all of the characters to life.

Loved the first two, but not this one!
Love Charlie - even though she is less grim reaper and more a sassy version of The Ghost Whisperer. Love the narrator - she does a terrific job. All of the books so far are a bit heavy on the (kind of repetitive) earth-shattering sex stuff, which is a bit much but I can deal. However, having Charlie suddenly feel scared of Reyes when he "kidnaps" her is just more than I can buy: suddenly she's all concerned that he's a "convicted murderer" when up until this point she is defending his deed as pretty much a righteous kill? Sorry, it is way too far out of character for me.

Third time is the charm
This is one of my favorite series. It is excellently written and narrated. You don't have to read the entire series but I would strongly recommend it. The characters are wonderful and very likeable. The story is interesting with enough twist and turns to keep you turning pages. The story itself is original and thoughtful. The narrator is perfect and brings everyone to life. If I could I would give it 10 stars. I can't say enough good things about this series and this book.

This book made me sad.
Where does Third Grave Dead Ahead rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
In my top 20 (I have over 90).
What was one of the most memorable moments of Third Grave Dead Ahead?
If I told you that I would spoil it. I was very sad though - I cried.
What does Lorelei King bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I love Lorelei King. If I'm not certain I should get a book - and I see she's the one reading it - it'll convince me to buy it. Even if I was learning towards no. She brings life to the characters.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
A little less sure, and a little more power.
Any additional comments?
As stated in the title, this book made me sad. Not because it was disappointing, but I truly felt for Charlie and the loss she had to endure through out the book. I feel this one was a bit darker than the other two. It'll be interesting to see how Charlie handles everything in the next book. I just want to hug her.

Love this series...
I would definitely recommend this book and, so far, this series. If you're looking for pure entertainment, these books fill the bill. I listen to my books as I walk every morning and I wonder what people think as I laugh out loud at Charlie and her zany cohorts, alive and departed. I must say that Lorelei King gives a superb performance. I'm never in any doubt as to which character she is portraying...great range vocally and emotionally. I've always been an avid reader, but Its a very different experience listening to a narrator's interpretation of books. You won't be disappointed with Lorelei King or Darynda Jones.

The Best of Three Worlds
Courtesy of Lost Art Audiobook Review
Charley Davidson is one funny, witty, pain-in-the-butt Albuquerque PI. She used to be a consultant to her police detective dad, and is now a consultant to her police detective uncle. But there’s more the Charley than “Danger” and “Will Robinson” – her tits. She’s also a grim reaper. Not the DeadLike Me type either, but the kind chosen from birth, can speak every language known to man, see the dead and let them pass through her, and remember everything from birth kind. That’s a hard burden for a girl who’s just trying to make rent and avoid getting killed while doing it.
Just like in First Grave on the Right and Second Grave on the Left, this third book in the series blends great comedic style, scorching, blistering sex, and serious drama. At the end of the last book, Charley bound Reyes to his corporeal form. He is mad and he is taking his anger out on Charley by intruding into her life day and night. In the meantime, Charley is hired by a man to find his wife, except she’s sure that he killed his wife, or at least believes he killed her. This book has more twists than a Chubby Checker song. It also has a painful development in Charley’s relationship with her father, and a promising new friendship between Charley and a local biker gang.
I’m not going to lie. The only two reasons I purchased the Charley Davidson series were because: (1) it fit the paranormal/urban fantasy mystery genre; and (2) Lorelei King narrated it. As usual, she doesn’t disappoint. If you’re familiar with Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series, you know how well Ms. King pulls of snarky, and there’s plenty of snark in these books. She gives great cop voice, and there are a ton of cops in this book. Lorelei King even does a good biker gang…wait, that sounded wrong. You know what I mean. In one of the books, she even clucks like a chicken. The things a narrator does for her art.
