To avoid his fate as a Breaker Boy—children forced to work the mines—Zephyr must find a way to earn enough coin to buy his freedom and escape the city of Crater. Yet there are only so many options afforded to a young boy with no family. Thievery is one.
At the same time—Captain Bacchus and his eccentric crew have been tasked with finding the whereabouts of a treasure, which they know little to nothing about. Yet with a reward of over 50 times their normal going rate, how can they turn the opportunity down?

The world building felt smaller than it should as well. Zehper got to the gardens very quickly for what should have been an impossibly tall city. Speaking a zephyr, he was the biggest and most selfish twat I’ve ever read in a book. Basically no redeeming qualities at all and all the major plot points were driven by the same concept of “oh damn, the consequences of my own selfish actions!”
Finally, as a non Christian, thank you (not really) for assuming I knew what a seraph was. The magical flying bit felt shoehorned in at the end and almost out of place. Calling a book wind walker and only having said wind walking happen in the last few minutes didn’t really work for me.
The annoying part, and this is why I have it a 3 star, is I kinda want to know what happens next. It’s mostly a morbid curiosity in that I want to see just how stupid zephyr can be, but still.
The book was…meh
