Publisher's summary

Sex trafficking. We hear about it on the nightly news and in special interest stories from around the world, but it occurs daily in communities all around us. Every year, thousands of young women are forced into sexual exploitation. Most are under the age of 18. The damage this causes to their emotions and souls is immeasurable.

But they are not without hope.

The White Umbrella tells stories of survivors as well as those who came alongside to help them to recovery. It describes the pain and the strength of these young women and those who held the "white umbrella" of protection and purity over them on the road to restoration.

This book offers principles and guidance to anyone with a heart for these hurting young women and a desire to help. It is an ideal resource for individuals or organizations seeking to learn what they can do to assist these victims in becoming whole again.

Should be required reading for everyone

Never thought I’d be introduced to the topic of sex trafficking or be interested in reading a book on the subject. After discussions with a friend I decided to learn a little more and found this book. As a person of faith I was inspired to hear how so many others have used their faith to combat the great evil that seeks to destroy that which is most pure. I have learned so much more about the conditions, situation and mental damage that comes from abuse. I have learned so much more about what it takes to help victims be resorted. And I am so thankful that there are blessed people who have committed themselves to combat this evil, and it must be combatted in all its forms. This book or books like it need to be shared, awareness needs to be raised. Everyone needs to understand how evil and damaging the sex trade is, how close to home it is, and everyone especially needs to raise their own white umbrella to combat it.

Do not buy for educational purposes…

It seems to me that the story didn’t do justice to the gravity of the sex trafficking problem. I first heard about this book at an emotional intelligence summit back in 2016, and the speaker who promoted it gave substantial amounts of facts and statistics, as she touched on the psichological state in which these victims are left, but I guess that all that useful information information was based on HER OWN research, NOT on the book. So I bought this book thinking it would be educational as far as how to watch for sex trafficking in our neighborhoods, understand the psychological profile these victims are left with and how treatment is tailored/designed for each of the victims, and the success rate of the treatment, but instead it felt like the book jumped around superficial (or rushed to the end) stories with very little insightful information. Another aspect that I didn’t necessarily enjoy was the narrators; they sound really robotic, so halfway into the book, you start getting bored with (or constantly distracted from) the content. They both sound like two versions of Alexa: a regular version, and an elderly version, and when they’re not making the reading sound like a bunch of run-on sentences, they are making awkward, untimely pauses. I wouldn’t say I don’t recommend this book, but I definitely think it would benefit from a re-do with more human sounding narrators.

I enjoyed this

Caring for a young woman who has been through some sexual trauma and possible exploitation, I was really hoping for more things I can do to help in her recovery. However, I still found this book very intriguing and eye opening. The narration was well done and it was easy to stay interested. I know it wasn't meant to be a "how to" book but I did still glean a few tips, and most importantly I realized that I need to keep giving unselfish love no matter how many steps backward she takes. I do recommend this to anyone who works with sexually abused or exploited girls and women.

Been waiting....

I love this book and have been waiting for the audible to come out for years. Major insight on how the world of 'human trafficking' as we think we know it. Stories follow everyone from the staff, to the victims and even their families. Put it in presepectives you would've never known to look for.
I didn't like the narrator at all. I was listening to it 1.75X faster to have her speak normal (little fast). Other books I only go to 1.25X or 1.50X. But such a good book I couldn't lower the star average for that!

Great example of love and self sacrifice.

Loved how God but on the hearts of the volunteers a courage, and focus to help the victims of this awful crime.
