Publisher's summary

Jim Malhaven is a lonely hack reporter, stringing along on assignments no one else wants at the local paper, until he gets the scoop of his life. There's a mysterious wraith haunting the local cemetery, and it's up to him to get to the bottom of the ghostly goings-on.

Along the way, he'll cross paths with a trio of weird sisters, uncover a sinister conspiracy, have more than one brush with death, and meet a gal with honey blonde hair and a killer smile. Is she that "certain someone" he's been looking for all his life, or is there a villain hiding behind that lovely face?

This twisty tale is the first in a new series of mystery novels paying loving homage to the hard-boiled detective novels and movies of the 1940s and '50s, with a paranormal bent that will leave you guessing until the final shocking revelation.

The elegant and exciting era of the PI

Helen made a perfect pick of Sean Thornton to bring alive this bygone time and weave a complicated tale of murder, family (!), and dedication.

Great noir mystery with plenty of twists and turns

Loved this book and ended up loving the narrator. At first, I had difficulty understanding him, but I kept with it and in fairly short order got used to his cadence and style. He ended up being an excellent choice for this terrific book and I was impressed with the different voices he was able to create. Highly recommend.

The Noir Voice was Fun

I don't listen to many mysteries, so I don't have a whole lot to compare this to, but my favorite books are ones that the narrator brings characters to live in ways that I probably wouldn't if I were just reading the book. Thornton did a good job of presenting the classic mystery novel feel.
The story was fun and the characters were ones you would want to spend time with. The hardboiled dialog is a little cheesy at times, but the story is a great quick listen well worth the time it takes to hear.

A Fun Read & Fitting Homage to the Genre

Even if you don't read much noir, The Weird Sisters of Wynter's Hill is a well-written, compelling story that gets the reader's gears going as they join Jim Malhaven in getting to the bottom of a local legend.

Everything about Helen Whistberry's story is lovingly crafted, making for an immensely enjoyable addition to the mystery and noir genres. Go read it, or listen to the well-done audiobook!

Fun story, Great Narration!!

Narrator, Sean Thornton, really brought this story to life! His intriguing delivery and wise-guy main character reading really make you want to keep listening, even if the story is a little cliche.
