After all, it isn't as if the brooding rogue has any real plans to marry - though there is something about the alluring Miss Bridgerton that sets Simon's heart beating a bit faster. Sir Phillip knew that Eloise Bridgerton was a spinster, and so he'd proposed, figuring that she'd be homely and unassuming, and more than a little desperate for an offer of marriage. Except...she wasn't. The beautiful woman on his doorstep was anything but quiet, and when she stopped talking long enough to close her mouth, all he wanted to do was kiss her... and more. For Michael Stirling, London's most infamous rake, after a lifetime of chasing women, of smiling slyly as they chased him, of allowing himself to be caught but never permitting his heart to become engaged, he took one look at Francesca Bridgerton and fell so fast and hard into love it was a wonder he managed to remain standing. Unfortunately for Michael, however, Francesca's surname was to remain Bridgerton for only a mere 36 hours longer.

Story
Gareth’s sole bequest is an old family diary, which may or may not contain the secrets of his past...and the key to his future. The problem is - it’s written in Italian, of which Gareth speaks not a word. To Hyacinth, Gareth’s every word seems a dare, and she offers to translate his diary, even though her Italian is slightly less than perfect. But as they delve into the mysterious text, they discover that the answers they seek lie not in the diary, but in each other...and that there is nothing as simple - or as complicated - as a single, perfect kiss.

On an island off the coast of Ireland, guests gather to celebrate two people joining their lives together as one. The groom: handsome and charming, a rising television star. The bride: smart and ambitious, a magazine publisher. It’s a wedding for a magazine or for a celebrity: the designer dress, the remote location, the luxe party favors, the boutique whiskey. Publisher's Summary
1814 promises to be another eventful season, but not, this author believes, for Anthony Bridgerton, London's most elusive bachelor, who has shown no indication that he plans to marry. And in all truth, why should he? When it comes to playing the consummate rake, nobody does it better... - Lady Whistledown's Society Papers, April 1814
But this time the gossip columnists have it wrong. Anthony Bridgerton hasn't just decided to marry - he's even chosen a wife! The only obstacle is his intended's older sister, Kate Sheffield - the most meddlesome woman ever to grace a London ballroom. The spirited schemer is driving Anthony mad with her determination to stop the betrothal, but when he closes his eyes at night, Kate's the woman haunting his increasingly erotic dreams.
Contrary to popular belief, Kate is quite sure that reformed rakes do not make the best husbands - and Anthony Bridgerton is the most wicked rogue of them all. Kate is determined to protect her sister - but she fears her own heart is vulnerable. And when Anthony's lips touch hers, she's suddenly afraid she might not be able to resist the reprehensible rake herself.

Good One!
What did you love best about The Viscount Who Loved Me?
The interactions between Kate Sheffield and Lord Anthony Bridgerton.
What did you like best about this story?
When the wealthy Lord Anthony decides to take a wife he chooses Kate's sister; the beautiful, petite "Diamond" of the London season. Kate has set herself up as her sister's protector against the rakes and undesirables who are vying for the beauty's hand. She is especially against the charming Viscount Anthony Bridgerton reported to be the biggest rake in London. Their interchange is hilarious; she steps on his feet, and he steps on her hand.
What about Rosalyn Landor’s performance did you like?
Everything, she is an excellent narrator.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I laughed out loud on several occasions.
Any additional comments?
After the poor choices in entertainment I've made of late "The Viscount Who Loved Me" was a pleasant surprise.

Diamond that was expected to be a CZ!!
We all know we love our little historical romances. They're fun and enjoyable and allow for us to imagine ourselves in a world we lobe to dream of having lived in. However, they certainly don't end up in Oprahs stupid Book Club, because they aren't “thought provoking” or “emotional” enough. Well, let me tell you, this book caught me off guard, in a wonderful way, from the very first page. Little Antony Brigerton absolutely idolized his Papa. Julia Quinn wrote such an extremely captivating prologue about the younster and his daddy, and RL read it with such genuine emotion, that by the end of that prologue I was in tears. I found myslef actuall crying real crys at least 3 times. For one of them I had a full on chin quiver and all!! There were plenty of times I laughed out loud as well.
A nice extra in these audible books is we get the extra epilogues. They can be a bit of a spoiler for upcoming books, but nothing reading the back of the books wont give away.
All in all, I think this was a fantastic read. JQ was super sweet to give us a male perspective of a massive loss and it does give us another view that we might not have ever thought of.
Well well worth the point, “In this authors opinion.” 😂

Stubbornly in Love
I loved the first book “The Duke and I,” however I think I connected with this one and enjoyed it even more. I had doubts about Anthony as his character was a little over-protective and was somewhat of a killjoy in Daphne and Simon’s relationship in the first book. However, getting to know his inner-workings and motivations, as well as Kate's, was both interesting and entertaining. I think Quinn did a great job showing how the characters’ relationships with their parents and traumatic experiences (death) impacted who they are and how they react to things was very well written, although frustrating at times. Their experiences with their parents: love and loss, were simply beautiful and touched me in a way that I don’t always experience in romance books. And while there are many tender moments, the book is chock-full of situations where Anthony and Kate are being mischievous, banter/arguing, or just being playful. Everything that happened at the house party in the middle was simply wonderful, and I would re-listen to this book in a heartbeat. The story had great pacing, and Rosalyn Landor’s narration matched perfectly with the story and really captured the characters’ emotions.

Antony is a pig.
If I had read this as my first Julia Quinn novel I never would have read another. All of the other books in this series are fairly decent to even great. Antony is a pig. I kept pursuing the story hoping that his character would improve. He doesn’t. There is nothing endearing about this man. The author tries to make decent behavior towards women appear like heroic behavior. Instead, every time I think the character is finally improving he returns to his original top notch disgusting behavior. And the heroine, who I do like? Falls in love with him? No. No. No.

Be Prepared to Laugh as You Listen
Another great Bridgerton saga romance. Love Landor's performance. Quinn has created an awesome world where we can watch the characters interact as they grow old together. I sit and almost "cackle" as I laugh at the most humorous parts of the book. I especially enjoyed the family game play where the competition and rivalry are only limited by the character's imagination.

Male Lead Voice was Distracting
The reader's voice for Anthony was too pompous and aloof for his character. It was distracting on more than one occasion. It took away from the playful flirtyness and made him seem too creepy/rapey. While I know Colin gets his own story, his interactions with Kate made me wish they were the main couple instead.

Worth the long wait for this in audio!
This is the first of Julia Quinn's books I ever read and one of the first 'modern' historical romances I ever read about a decade or so ago, when I was just starting to read the genre. As a result, I have a bit of a soft spot for it, but that's not surprising, considering it's a terrific book.
It's a classic enemies-to-lovers/compromised-into-marriage story and remains one of my favourite HRs and one of my favourites of the Bridgerton series (it's up there with "When He Was Wicked"). I admit that I haven't read it for some time, and I have forgotten bits, so this new audio was a fantastic reminder.
The relationship between Anthony and Kate is brilliantly done - the sexual chemistry just sizzles between them right from the start, and the author does a superb job of showing both characters falling head-over-heels with each other while trying to maintain their outward animosity.
I loved that Anthony is so family-oriented; there are so many dysfunctional families in romance that it's refreshing to find one that isn't. He's also, quite simply, sex-on-legs.
Rosalyn Landor does an incredible job in the audio version. It's a given that she's technically superb - she's always spot on when it comes to things like differentiation and pacing - but where she scores over practically ever other narrator of historical romance is that she 'gets' it like no-one else. The way she brings the emotional content of the story to the fore so vividly always amazes me and I had a lump in my throat several times while listening to this one.
I'm sure I don't need to convince any reader of HR that this is a fabulous book, or anyone who listens to romance audios regularly that the narration is outstanding.
But I still had to shout about it, because it's just THAT good.

Good story but..
Call me a purist, but a period story set in England really should have vaguely correct grammar & vocabulary. Annoyingly although this series of stories are fun, the grammatical errors "look out the window" and what sounds like wrong word usage or st least too modern "bum" just grates.
I haven't looked up the author who is new to me, but I wouldn't be surprised if she's American. Still I'm always surprised that things like these aren't picked up by sub-editors, editors, printers etc..!!! Such a shame as such minor errors create a disproportionate annoyance.

Excellent
I do love a period romance. Lovable characters, and we'll paced lengthy novel. The narrator did make Anthony seem much older than 29 but otherwise beautifully delivered.
