Publisher's Summary

Living in Victorian London is difficult at the best of times. So, instead of following in his father’s footsteps, Albert decides on adventure. However, fate has other plans. One drunken night on his way home, he responds to the blood-curdling scream of a woman. He rushes her attacker and in the ensuing fight, he is bitten. Albert's world is changed forever. With that one savage bite, he is turned into a monster that people had believed was just a creation of an author's mind.

That night Albert becomes a vampire. Days turn into months, then years to decades as he struggles with the loss of his soul and humanity. He thought he was alone but as his friends and loved ones pass into memory, his own kind begin to make their presence known.

Great Listen with some Light Fun Moments

The Victorian Vampire written by Nick James is a tale about an everyday brit that turns into an everyday vampire. Overall this book was a feel-good fun read. From the heartwarming bonds formed by the characters to the funny situations, they get into. This book is a good fit for anyone who enjoys the vampire genre but wants it light on the gore. Unfortunately, the downfall of this story is that there wasn't any real conflict for the protagonist to overcome. Sure, there were sprinklings of minor conflicts throughout which were quickly resolved, and I didn't feel that he was ever in any real danger.

The narrator Paul Hilliar did an exceptional job, being a perfect match for the majority of characters. Although his American accent needs a little work, his voice acting was consistent throughout and caught the tone of the protagonist and other characters perfectly.

Editing, quality, and production were on par with most books I have listened to. It was clear, with no issue with sound or quality.

This Audiobook was provided free of charge by the author, narrator, and/or publisher in exchange for a non-bias, honest review.

Fabulous! Imaginative and Enthralling!

Albert tried to do the right thing, he really did, unfortunately he got bit in the neck for his trouble, setting off a chain of events that no one could have imagined! “The Victorian Vampire” is a thrilling account of Albert’s trials and tribulations as he comes to terms with his new reality, Completely enthralling, a bit horrifying and somewhat macabre in all the BEST possible ways, the writing is fantastic, the dialogue smooth and the characters, WOW the characters, some history based with liberal editorial license, and some totally of the authors imagination, ALL beautifully developed and running the full spectrum of likability! No spoilers, As much as I would love to mention a few of my favorites, I don’t dare as that might be giving away too much of this ingeniously creative and totally unique plot! The narration was excellent, keeping me engaged in this magnificent story. All accents (and there were several) were spot on, and the vocal intonations were emotionally appropriate throughout. I throughly enjoyed listening to this one! Five fabulous stars!

Charming and enchanting

What an charming and enchanting vampire story! I loved following Albert through his life. He has such the great attitude which is not what I was expecting. The characters we meet are lively, lovely and some dangerous.

I did not love this like I have this authors other stories but in no way is that a bad thing. I just missed the humor. This is a more straightforward story with little hidden agenda. It is pleasing to listen to as the narrator did a wonderful job. This was my first time listening to Paul Hilliar and I could easily listen to him again.

great great great

I found this very suspenseful and entertaining. I began to despair for poor Albert being alone forever. Rose drove a stake in my heart when she left Albert. Great ending and stake is removed!!!! lol. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a great job bringing the characters and story to life.

A fun romp through Historic London with a Vampire

This was a fun journey that really should continue in a second book (same characters or just the same reality/universe). I'd eagerly look forward to another one like this!

Jack the Ripper & Vampires ❣

Loved, loved, loved this story! Nick James is a fantastic story-teller and Paul Hilliar brilliantly brought the story together with his spellbinding, alluring voice. If you love vampires, romance, witty and addictive characters, and plain, damn good writing... you'll enjoy this one! I loved it so much, went out and purchased the book. BRAVO 👏

Not your average Vampire story

A highly recommend read...
I was initially unsure about this as its not my usual genre but the characters were so well written and narrated and I loved the main character and loved reading about all his ups and downs through his long, unfortunate and complicated life.
I'm so glad I stepped outside my reading comfort zone as Nick James and Paul Hilliar didn't fail to entertain.

Vampire Rom Com

This is a very creatively written vampire tale that crosses several decades. It is fun and scary and has lots of action and energy. There is also lots of romance which is why I thought it was like a vampire romantic comedy. The narrator has a gorgeous voice and lovely diction and I would love to hear him read more.

Nick James Strikes Again!

This is another great listen from Nick James, the characters are well developed and the plot interesting and in places very funny. A Vampire on the side of law and order... Bertie is a brilliant character, A Super Hero in Vampires body. Really enjoyed the book and Paul Hilliar's narration was once again spot on. Highly recommended.
I was kindly given a copy of this book by the author and leave this honest review voluntarily.

Exactly what you want from a vampire novel

An excellent vampire story that has restored my faith in the genre. Not complicated with traditions or rituals- poor Albert just wants to live his life. Tells his tale from the streets of Victorian London to modern day New York.
Solid story that keeps you engaged. Enjoyed the little bits of dry humour sprinkled throughout. Narration and accents on point.

So this isn't my usual kind of book. but I have to its charm and charismatic MC does draw you in. The other characters compliment the story as it progresses. Travelling through time with Berty is a fun ride.

the narration is perfectly suited to this victorian vampire story.
