Publisher's Summary

A hot vet. A rebellious teenager. And meddling but well-meaning townsfolk. Vera gets more than she bargains for when she runs off to a new life in the country....

A fresh and funny rural romance, perfect for listeners of Alissa Callen and Rachael Johns.

Vera De Rossi no longer believes in love....

And thanks to her ex-boyfriend, she's also broke, jobless, and staring down the barrel of a court case that could land her in prison. Turning to her talent for baking, Vera opens a cafe in Hanrahan, a cozy tourist town in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains.

Josh Cody, once Hanrahan's golden boy, escaped 16 years ago with gossip hard on his heels and a pregnant girlfriend in tow. Now he's back: a qualified veterinarian - and a single dad with a lot to prove. A new start and a grumpy teenage daughter...it's a lot to juggle, and there's no room in his life for further complications. But that's before he walks into The Billy Button Cafe and meets its prickly owner....

Reeling from the past, Vera has no intention of being sidetracked by the hot vet with a killer smile. But fate has a way of tripping up our best intentions and between a stray cat and a busybody with a heart of gold, this is a town - a family - unlike any other. And, whether Vera wants it or not, is there anything a family won't do to help one of its own?

Praise:

"The perfect feel-good blend of warmth, wit and small-town charm. This debut will leave you smiling." (Alissa Callen best-selling author of Snowy Mountains Daughter)

wonderful story

the narrator was great!! Even though the town was made up the description was so beautiful and made me want to visit. I just fell in love with the characters and it was beautifully told.

You Do Not Want To Miss Out On This Absolute Gem

This is such a beautifully written AND read story that is tremendously hard to stop listening to/put down.
Anyone who loves a good romance story with it’s fair share of laughs and tears needs this book in their lives.
It ends so wonderfully but gosh I would just love this to be the first book of an entire series. I didn’t want it to end. The characters feel more like friends and family rather than purely beings of a fictional world. I want to know more, more, more please!
Fiona Macleod is beyond talented with her change in voices for each character, her pace of reading to help set each scene accordingly and her clear love of reading the story itself. This, together with how gorgeously written this heart-warming story by the very clever Stella Quinn is, is an absolute dream combination and I couldn’t recommend it highly enough.
I truly hope this is just the beginning of this duo that has brought so much joy to me and I’m sure, many others. Thank you, thank you, thank you xxxx

Seriously?

So slow. Narration Questionable. Aussie vernacular way overdone. Fauna is tear jerking (in a bad way). Way over narrated via the third person. No actual conversations?

Wonderful Story - Real, Happy, Sad and Hilarious

I absolutely loved this story. The characters were wonderful, real, vulnerable and often, hilarious. Stella Quinn obviously has a fantastic/wicked sense of humour that comes out in her characters. Marigold and Kev are so funny, I was laughing out loud as I walked my dog around the block listening. I really enjoyed the narration as well and will be looking for more books narrated by Fiona Macleod. I would thoroughly recommend this book to anyone who loves romance, the country and Australian humour. Hope there will be another audiobook soon.

Country Escape

A delightful story set in a small country town with a typical mix of characters, the salt of the earth.
Would be enjoyed by folk wanting some light relief from our never ending string of bad news.

Enjoyable read.

Thoroughly enjoyed reading about the snowy river region, one of my favourite places. Vera was a bit frustrating at times and I’d like to see the Hannah character developed - maybe another book?
