For the town of Randall, Arizona, the terror starts quietly, oddly - a senile woman in her 80s becomes pregnant. Then the town's beloved minister mysteriously disappears, leaving his church and home hideously defiled by blasphemous obscenities scrawled in blood. Farmers going out to their fields in the morning find their herds of goats slaughtered. Then, as the terror intensifies, the farmers themselves are massacred. The town begins to smell of death, and the trust which has bound neighbors to one another turns to ashes. But the relentless tide of death is only an augury of a far more unspeakable cataclysm. A stranger arrives, an itinerant preacher with mad eyes and an elemental presence named Brother Elias. He seeks out three men: The sheriff, tough, no nonsense Jim Weldon; the new minister, a gentle God-fearing soul named Father Andrews; and Gordon Lewis, a young newlywed whose pregnant wife Marina is the unknowing center of the coming fury. Together, these people must face an implacable force of evil as old as the world and as relentless as the desert sun....

This is the first Bentley Little book that I've listened to. The author has a fruitful imagination and a gift for writing pulp horror. I enjoyed the story and all of the disturbing imagery within. The author kept a good pace and I never found myself to be bored. The narration was solid, but I found the narrator to be a bit monotonic.

This was good, not great, but good and gross.Churches are being desecrated,a pastor and his family have dissapeared. So many theories, but the real cause goes back eons and will only be battled by old magic.David Stifel was a terrific narrator.

Bentley Little is one of my favorite horror authors however The Revelation is a lesser quality work. The structure of the story is similar to many of his other books but I sense he had less of a connection with the darkly religious theme. i didn't feel the book was particular scary, in fact I cannot pinpoint any scene that evoked a fear response. It didn't hold my attention such as The Handyman, Death Instinct, or The Haunted, all of which I felt had a more believable storyline despite deviation into the impossible. Generally I dig in to a new Bentley Little book but this one dragged a bit. I found the storyline unbelievable to the point of disinterest. The mysterious priest character was confusing as the antagonist turned savior/hero, I couldn't connect. I always like Little's down-to-earth protagonist character who runs through most of his books, the logical family man or traditional male husband character whose heroic efforts save the day. I was bored at the end and was wishing Little tries a new theme, he is extremely talented and never immature or cheesy. You'll find some extreme sexual content in this book, for example brief sex interludes between married couple, bizarre unexplained pregnancy of 80 yr old woman resulting in grotesque birth scene. The narrator did a good job to create interest. I feel Bentley Little has many more great books in him if he feels connected to the subject matter. I'd like to see work on character development to add a human touch while mitigating the gore.

Very good, not his best

Ticks all the boxes of old school horror. Strong stomache recommended. This book can give veteran horror readers the creeps.

Old creepy story

alright for a horror novel. had a few things I didn't expect as far as horror elements. what I am never understanding in horror novels is the necessity for cringey sex scenes. like, have you ever dated a real woman or do you just make up whatever weird fantasy comes to mind? I ended up actively rolling my eyes or yelling out loud in response to these scenarios.
Just. Stop.
These scenes are painful. How does emotional trauma translate into sex? look at my magical healing penis and the really inane fantasy of coming together. FML

occasionally cringey
