The Vanished: A chilling psychological thriller with a brilliant twist

He has to become a child killer to save his daughter's life. On May 6, five-year-old Annie Miller goes missing in a park. On May 7, her father, David Miller, fails a lie detector test. On May 9, during a hypnosis session, David confesses to murdering his daughter and gives the police the location of the knife he used to kill her. The knife has traces of Annie's blood and David's fingerprints all over it. Two weeks later, a man named Ben calls David and tells him Annie's alive. Ben is willing to let the girl go, but first David has to do something for him--something that would land David in prison for the rest of his life. Can David trust him? Is Ben even real?

Fun twists and turns

A little predictable, but fun to listen to. I did not like the computer narration during conversation. It was hard sometimes to tell who was speaking, and the inflection didn't fit what was happening in the story.
Still worth the listen for free!

Meh..

The story is kind of bland and the computer generated voice is obvious. It doesn't give the character human characteristics and personality.

Hard to believe

The computer generated voice definitely did not help this book. Between the robotic cadence and the main characters constant need to pervericate or simply withhold the truth, this was a challenging listen. I found myself dismissing or challenging many of the premises and/or actions in the book. At the end, when there was a sneak peak at another of his books, I quit listening after a couple of minutes when it became apparent obvious that the same technique was used.

every character sounded the same, same tone. it was hard to follow characters. I lost who was who quite a few times

This book is a great example of why you need actual people to read an audio book

The story was interesting and kept me entertained, but the computer generated audio is so distracting. This is meant to be a gripping story of child abduction, but the virtual voice reads it in a bright cheery tone (as a husband tells his wife their daughter is missing).
