The New York Times bestselling series!
The first book in L.J. Smith’s New York Times bestselling Vampire Diaries series, the basis of the hit CW TV show starring Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, and Ian Somerhalder.
Elena Gilbert is a high school golden girl, used to getting what she wants. And who she wants. But when the boy she’s set her sights on—the handsome and haunted Stefan—isn’t interested, she’s confused. She could never know the real reason Stefan is struggling to resist her:
Stefan is a vampire, and Elena’s in danger just by being around him. What’s more, Stefan’s dark, dangerous vampire brother Damon has just arrived in town. And wherever Damon goes, trouble always follows.
Fans of The Vampire Diaries TV show will find this book packed with the same kind of heart-stopping suspense, fierce romances, and jaw-dropping surprises that they know and love, all brought to life by New York Times bestselling author L.J. Smith.

Featured Article: The Vampire Diaries Character Guide
The Vampire Diaries is a sweeping saga that revolves around Elena Gilbert, a young mortal woman living in the small town of Fells Church, Virginia, and Damon and Stefan Salvatore, vampire brothers who are vying for her affections. Forces of good and evil play out across the town as nearly everyone they know becomes wrapped up in paranormal intrigue, especially when old enemies and ancient forces come to visit. Spanning 13 novels written over 20 years, the series has inspired a long-running television adaptation and unofficial spin-offs. Needless to say, there’s a lot of characters to keep track of.

The narrator: She’s actually pretty good for most narrators in this genre however, she does not do Damon or Stefan well at all. I’m not sure if it’s the accent or what but she just could not convey the proper emotions at the appropriate times. It all sounded the same. They really should have had a male narrator for Stefan’s point of view.
The transitions between characters were terrible. They happened with no warning and it sometimes took a minute to realize she switched. She could have at least just said their name before switching to them.
Okay but nothing exciting

While Rebecca has a good voice she doesn't distinguish between any characters other than the Salvatore brothers. At times it's hard to tell whose talking until she says "Elena said or Caroline said, ect"
So far, the book and show differ extremely. I will give the next book (strong maybe) or two a try. So far if I hadn't of seen the show and only read first book on its own I'd have stoped reading as it's dry and slow without much to keep you interested. Perhaps more of the interesting bits that kept me intrigued from the show will come about in the following books.
Overall quite disappointed with it in its entirety. Let's hope the second book is better.
Guess I should have read before watching the show
