Publisher's Summary

An American heiress nobody wants; a duke every woman desires; and a murder no one expects.

As a young duke, all Nathaniel wants is to be left alone. So when he meets Charlotte, an outspoken American heiress, he is suspicious of her indifference. Too many women have sought - and failed - to catch him.

However, Charlotte is unimpressed by his title. She has no interest in English dukes. All she wants is to leave dreary England and travel to the sunny sands of Egypt to see the grand pyramids.

Unfortunately, a debutante seeking to entrap Nathaniel gets murdered, and his reputation as a confirmed misogynist makes him a suspect. On impulse, Charlotte comes to his aid, unaware that her actions place her in danger, too.

Neither Charlotte nor the duke know that a highwayman interested in rich heiresses is following Charlotte, and that another debutante lies dead in Nathaniel's carriage. And unfortunately, the evidence soon complicates Nathaniel's efforts to prove his innocence and convince Charlotte that he is worthy of her love.

Some nights just don't go as planned.

Cute, but....

Grammatical errors or not, this was a cute book!!! But my heavens how can one woman be SO stupid when she's (supposedly) so smart?! Silliness!

Will I listen again, probably not.
The story was good.
The narrator was good.
The problems were tolerable.
But Charlotte was SO irritating!

Clean.

Narration

I’m sure the story is good but couldn’t handle the narrator so I didn’t get past the second chapter

Grating on the ears

I realize that the romance category is not known for it’s clever plots, but this book is definitely in the lower end of the scales. It has potential, the story could be good, but as it is it seems badly executed. I cringe at the holes in logic and contradictory building of characters. A wife who shares her husbands fondness for gambling, is not likely to keep him in check.
Add to that a monotone narrator who ends every sentence on a low note and you have a rather insulting piece of work. I can only attribute my finishing this book to my OCD. I give it two stars because it could have been rather entertaining.

The narrator killed it for me.

I would have enjoyed this a lot more if the narration was better. I was hoping there was a different reader for the rest of the series.

Predictable story and wooden narration

I wasn’t expecting much from the book, but the possibility of a murder mystery romance intrigued me

The narrator had no enthusiasm at all, very wooden intonation and a bad accent for the heroine.

Horrible Narration!!!

Some of the worst narration ever. Struggled to listen until the end. Numerous times, I forced myself to continue listening just to know how the story line played out. This narrator is monotonous, and listening to her is painful. I would like to continue with the Archer Family Series, but I will choose a digital book rather than Audible. Too bad Audible didn't learn after the first book and hire a different narrator.

Listen to the sample!

This book was included in the romance package, it was decent but the narration was hard to get past. The narrator seemed to rush the dialogue and it pulled me out of the story more than once. The story itself wasn't one that I couldn't put down or an absolute page turner. I think that this might be more of a murder mystery than a romance novel since the romance was seriously lacking.

She didn't realize she was wanted

I loved this book. I hated when I had to get out of my car and had to wait until the next time to listen to this story. Amy Corwin tells a great story. So many twist and turns. You're not sure what's gonna happen next. Just when you think you've got it all figured out, it takes off in a different direction and gets even more interesting. I like HEA books and Amy's books are some of my favorite.

Good story, Robot narrator

the narrator sounds like the Kindle robot. it's hard to listen to, I've slowed it down and that helps a bit.
