Publisher's summary

The 12th Duke of Beaufort, known to his friends as 'Bunter', inherited his Dukedom and Badminton House in 2017, at the age of sixty-five. But he is also a singer and songwriter with the rock group The Listening Device. Now he combines his responsibilities as Duke with his life as a rock performer.

In this lively and anecdote-filled memoir, Harry Beaufort takes us behind the scenes of his varied life: from playing poker with politicians, to partying on Ibiza with film stars to people watching with The Queen from a balcony at Windsor Castle. He offers an intimate portrait of aristocratic privilege and a lifetime filled with rock stars, royalty, eccentrics and jaw-droppingly unbelievable stories.

But Harry also offers a sensitive and perceptive insight into the worlds he has inhabited and the friendships and laughter that he has experienced along the way. This is the story of an ordinary man facing up to his extraordinary inheritance-the story of The Unlikely Duke.

Wonderful stories that had me laughing out load! I’m sure there are enough stories not included for a second book.

Having drinks with a Duke

What a charming memoir. I chose the audible version and have listened to it over the last week. It makes it seem like meeting a colorful stranger at the bar in The Washington Square Grill in San Francisco during its 1980s heyday having drinks then dinner because of the stranger’s wonderful stories, shared memories of movies and rock concerts, all told in a self deprecating manner with a utterly dry sense of humor. At the end of dinner such fun was had that you make plans to meet again on Friday. And on and on and suddenly it’s done. A life told. Highly recommended.

Restoring paintings at B, for me recognition when DS said don’t mention our visit with Sir Oliver Miller, the Queens curator at my studio in London . .. supers cooking omelets with your ma midweek in the kitchen alone no staff after a days painting restoration when they moved into B ..The ladies white bread loaves with marmite at midnight. Recipes from the white cookbook like jellied peas with cold lamb chops. Weekends with Russel page or Bill Paley, Sid Bass or Gianni Agnelli. You hated that! Kershaw the best of friends, Pads and Jules, or looking for Ben in the yellow pages. C feranti with her dog on the table. Brav on the golf course at West Wratting.
