Publisher's summary

The ghost of Sir Lancelot helps Jessie and her unicorn friend, Gus, stop a dragon from destroying the Great Plains and even time itself. Jessie discovers how to release the power of the magical Karkadan horn to do good, and Gus finds the courage to live up to being the son of the unicorn king.

This story is suitable for children ages four and older. (There are some scary parts, but no explicit violence, and of course, it has a fairy tale ending) Reading level is seven to 10. The story is in an accessible play format. It can be enjoyed as a short bedtime story, or the kids can act it out as a play.

This is a kid favorite. Kids will enoy reading along as they listen to the audiobook. The audiobook matches the print and e-book word for word and is a fun way for kids to learn to read.

Can't wait for the next one 🐲

Another wonderful book in the Unicorn Daze series by Laura Hesse. In this installment the ghost of Sir Lancelot comes to aid Jessie and Gus to help take down a dragon. The UD series is a great set of books for children. I highly recommend them. From the richly detailed writing to the wonderfully animated narration you will love these book's. The Unicorn and the Dragon

This book is an easy read/listen and highly recommended for readers/listeners of all ages. Kids would surely love the way Laura narrated her book - as I did.

It is the first Laura Hesse book I listened to and I am happy to say that I liked it. Unicorn, dragon and the ghost of Sir Lancelot, what else could you want more?

Who will extinguish the flaming veil of time?

A rollicking romp beyond the veil of time on the back of a talking unicorn prince, when before you know it, the veil of time is engulfed in dragon flame! You may be delighted with the solution to this dilemma. There may be other stories before this one which give context to some of the characters and which explain the existence of a magical artifact that came into play in this story, but it can stand alone as well.
The narration was fun and paced well.

Cute short fantasy for young early readers.

This was a cute fantasy. A very simple and easy to read and listen book that I would say is age appropriate for second grade and under.

A Cute Kid's Story

This is a cute kid's story. A lovely short story for a break through the day or at bedtime. It is book four of the series but myself and my children had no problems enjoying it. The only issue I have is with the narration. The author does a decent job but I think it would have been better with someone else. Someone who could have made the different voices a bit more distinct from each other. Other than that, it's a really cute story for kids to hear.

Don’t Recommend

I don’t recommend this book for anyone. The story is good but the narrator is bad and doesn’t do the story any justice.

Okay.

Jumping in at the fourth book, I found the story a bit hard to follow.
Not being familiar with the Unicorn Daze Universe I can't say much more about the story itself. It was alright I guess, not too deep. Good as a bedtime story.

That being said the narration was by no means bad, however, it might have been beneficial for the overall presentation to get another narrator to read it; as to have a fresh interpretation of the material and to perhaps flesh-out some of the more exciting parts of the book text.

A fun fantasy kids story

The Unicorn and the Dragon is a fun fantasy story for kids with a unicorn, a knight, and a dragon. This is part of the Unicorn Daze series, and it is by far the most action packed of the three I have listened to thus far (I have not listened to the third one). This is a cool short story that is a great length to keep the kids entertained while driving around town.

The narrator, also the author, reminds me of listening to a teacher or a librarian. She has a pleasant voice, but makes no attempt at acting out the characters, rather saying the name of each character before reading their lines instead. This can be a little distracting, but younger listeners will appreciate being able to keep track of who is who.

The new surprise bedtime fave in our household!

This book appears to be a self-funded independent project in which the writer herself narrates the audiobook. Her unpolished style isn’t necessarily what adults are looking for in an audiobook but it is PERFECT for little kids! My son loves this audiobook because he said it “sounds like mommy reading it”. In fact, it is a much bigger hit in our household than other classic children’s tales that are professionally narrated because those narrators fail to capture his attention. The Unicorn and the Dragon literally sounds like it’s being read by a mother or a grandmother to her own loved ones. I love it because the story itself and the narrator sooth my little one off to sleep. He’s got a library of audiobooks to choose from and lately he’s been asking for The Unicorn and the Dragon every night. So glad to have stumbled upon this cute story. Good

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I feel a bit stupid that, as a person in the mid-twenties, I struggled to follow the plot line of a book for four year olds. However, this is book 4 in a series, and I haven't read the previous three. It was well written, and very well narrated by the author Laura Hesse, but I wasn't a fan of repeating the book title before starting every chapter.
