Patrick Collins has three items on his Christmas list. He wants the army to find his father, a B-17 pilot, somewhere in England. He wants to leave his grandfather’s house. And he wants--very badly--something he's just seen tucked away in his grandfather’s attic. Set at Christmastime in 1943, The Unfinished Gift is a dramatic family drama that reminds us of the surprising things that can affect powerful changes in our hearts–-a young boy’s desperate prayers, a shoebox full of love letters, even a dusty, long-forgotten wooden soldier.

Written by bestselling author Dan Walsh. Critics and reviewers often compare Dan's novels to Nicholas Sparks, Richard Paul Evans, and Charles Martin.

The narration was awful. Mispronunciations and poor inflection interfered with the flow of the story. The story itself was well crafted.

poor narration ruined a good story

A sad situation was redeemed. Bad things happened but good came out of it. I did not feel sad although it was a difficult topic- war and death of a mother. There was a lot of hope

It was positive about a difficult time of war

Good story, but I agree with the other reviews that the virtual voice narrator made this really difficult to listen to. Lots of errors in this pronounced words throughout the story. Just pay a real reader next time.

A 1943 Christmas story that tackles family division, loss and grief and a young boy named Patrick. I wasn’t sure this book could have a happy ending but it delivered an original one that speaks to the choice of bitter or better when circumstances are dire, especially when living outside of what the Bible teaches. This is a man’s account of respect, loyalty and father/son conflict. Not your average Christmas story, but one with depth.

The audiobook is male virtual voice, which was fine at 1.3x speed. Better than some narrators…

This book is suitable for teens and older with no inappropriate intimate scenes and no bad language.

A Realistic, Emotional Story—

It’s the typical sanitized Christian fiction with a predictable story. But overall it is a feel good experience except for a robotic, flat narrative with annoying glitches like solder for soldier in places, and a very dull telling of what could have been deeply emotional moments. A little sad, but I’m sure cheaper.

A little too glib for me.
