This was a great short horror story about revenge from the grave. A gentleman is witness to an unusual occurrence in an old chapel. When an outsider decides to steal the chapel’s prayer books, he pays dearly.

James’s best ghost stories, full of the kind of expert historical detail and a subsequent verisimilitude that, when combined with just the one expertly delivered and applied supernatural brush stroke make of him second only to the great Dickens and to his Anglo-American namesake Henry James. And David Collins’ virtuoso narration, always reliable, completes the effect. Truly flawless.
