Publisher's summary

The Nazis spared their lives because they were twins.

In the summer of 1944, Eva Mozes Kor and her family arrived at Auschwitz.

Within 30 minutes, they were separated. Her parents and two older sisters were taken to the gas chambers while Eva and her twin, Miriam, were herded into the care of the man who became known as the Angel of Death: Dr Josef Mengele. They were 10 years old.

While twins at Auschwitz were granted the 'privileges' of keeping their own clothes and hair, they were also subjected to Mengele's sadistic medical experiments. They were forced to fight daily for their own survival, and many died as a result of the experiments, or from the disease and hunger rife in the concentration camp.

In a narrative told simply, with emotion and astonishing restraint, The Twins of Auschwitz shares the inspirational story of a child's endurance and survival in the face of truly extraordinary evil.

Also included is an epilogue on Eva's incredible recovery and her remarkable decision to publicly forgive the Nazis. Through her museum and her lectures, she dedicated her life to giving testimony on the Holocaust, providing a message of hope for people who have suffered and worked toward goals of forgiveness, peace and the elimination of hatred and prejudice in the world.

Inspiring

Eva Mozes Kor went through an horrific experience in her childhood but her vision and act of forgiveness is inspiring and humbling. She was a true peacemaker and this book is very uplifting despite the horror that it also contains.

Couldn't put it down!

Every child and adult should be asked to read this book to remind them of the horrors that existed and unfortunately to some degree still exist in our world.

Anger is the seed for war, forgiveness is the seed for peace.
The human spirit is remarkable.

Honest and inspiring

I was recommended this book by a student. Obviously it resonates with younger audience just as with adults. There is a lot of detail but the narrative is accessible enough. I cannot believe this book is only 4 hours, as it felt like a life time listening to it.

Sad memoirs from the eyes of a child

Clearly written through the eyes of a child, this does lack description which is understandable as a child may not comprehend a situation or the story teller may not wish to relive in such details.
thank you for telling your story.

An amazing story

After learning so much about Eva and her story during my visit to Auschwitz, I really wanted to read her books. A beautifully written story, where to no surprise you fall in love with the person. A tenacious girl, to a vivacious woman. A great read, about a harrowing (yet wonderful) life.

As if often mentioned about Auschwitz...it has to be acknowledged. I love the honesty in this book. often hard hitting but uplifting overall.

An incredible true story of bravery and courage

Eva Mozes Kor's story shows what an incredible person she was overcoming adversity throughout her life and showing forgiveness to her perpetrators despite their horrendous crimes.

Should be read alongside Anne Frank's diary

Perfect narration made this easy to listen to. I wanted to listen to a novel and hadn't quite realised what this is, but I'm so grateful I heard it. Survivors often can't go into a lot of detail or allow their emotions to show, but wow this lady was strong. Both she and the narrator made this short book easy to listen to, whilst still letting the horror come through. This is written at a level that could accompany Anne Frank's diary when read at school. Teenagers should be encouraged to understand the horrors of the holocaust, and be prepared for an adulthood of recognising and standing against atrocities in the world we are facing now.

What a story.

I have listened to quite a few holocaust stories now and am starting to hear the overlaps in the stories, things that happened and how it was experienced by different people. This, a child’s perspective is rare of course because on the whole children did not survive. No matter how many I hear I still continue to be shocked at the dehumanising treatment that people can inflict on others. Nazis convinced themselves that Jewish people were sub human but yet experimented on them to learn about how humans react to things? I will never understand
