Epic, Sweeping Psychological Thriller/Romance

I really enjoyed and highly recommend this audio book from a new author to me! Set in the deep south, which I love, the author really pays homage to the area - you can almost hear the pecan shells crunching and cicada swarm. I love, love, love the characters who were really brought to life by this outstanding narration, I could picture them all so clearly and individually Sometimes I even wondered if the voices were all her or if there were multiple narrators, the voices were that distinct.
I love well-done romances (nuanced, not schmaltzy) and psychological thrillers so this was a perfect blend of my favorite genres. I think the story really portrayed the tight-wire of living with a narcissist (Steve, a delicious character) with psychopathic tendencies. I loved the twists that I did not see coming - made me question my own recollection of events a few times - which is exactly what a gaslighting person would do.
I am also a sucker for layered portrayals of female friendship, and loved the evolving relationship between Janet and Donna, which I found to be very real, in all it's ups and downs, and touching.
I have followed this narrator, Oona Maya's work and always tune in and will now be following the author, Tecia Mclaughlin as well. I hope they collaborate in the future!

This book has so many twists and turns that at times I had to go back in the chapter to remember who was who? The story was amazing with a great ending full of twists and turns. The author, Tecia McLaughlin kept us guessing with all her secrets throughout the novel. Can’t wait to read more from her.
The narrator Oona Maya Voice was amazing with all the different voices she gifted us with.
Overall, I suggest you go and get this book as soon as possible, I promise you will not regret it. When you finish ask yourself this: for how long are you willing to keep secrets in order to save your marriage??

The story was excellent. The narration was wonderful. The characters were solid and well thought out. I didn’t want it to end! I’m off to look for another book by Tecia McLaughlin 😃

Secrets, Lies, and Small-Town Drama

The Truth She Buried by Tecia McLaughlin is a gripping, character-driven mystery packed with secrets, layered relationships between spouses, friends, and neighbors, and emotional tension. The small-town setting works really well, adding to the tension and the tangled relationships.

The pacing hits a nice balance—enough suspense to keep you hooked, but still very character-driven. The twists land well, and I stayed invested in how everything would come together. The narration by Oona Maya was done really well and added to the overall experience.
