Story
The societies we live in are increasingly making our minds ill, making it feel as though the way we live is engineered to make us unhappy. When Matt Haig developed panic disorder, anxiety, and depression as an adult, it took him a long time to work out the ways the external world could impact his mental health in both positive and negative ways. Notes on a Nervous Planet collects his observations, taking a look at how the various social, commercial, and technological "advancements" that have created the world we now live in can actually hinder our happiness.

Story
Like nearly one in five people, Matt Haig suffers from depression. Reasons to Stay Alive is his inspiring account of how, minute by minute and day by day, he overcame the disease with the help of reading, writing, and the love of his parents and his girlfriend (now wife), Andrea. And eventually, he learned to appreciate life all the more for it. Everyone's lives are touched by mental illness; if we do not suffer from it ourselves, then we have a friend or loved one who does.

I wasn't sure first listen thru
My eyebrow went up, a couple of times, first time through. At the end I thought I like this selection so what is bothering me about it? I listened again and decided its because its not a pixie story like I grew up with. The days little girls were told stories of finding that prince. Well, this story is perfect as it is. Fantasy with real life situations in a kids world. I appreciate this listen for its good and bad because that's life. You can't beat the price either :)

Truth Pixie
I have to be honest I hated the voice of Truth Pixie. Maybe because what I pictured in my head for three books is not what she sounded like. I did like the story. Which is more important. It’s always important to go on the storyline then storytelling of a book.

the lisp is grating
I wanted to like this but the sugary lisp was grating and they rhyming was forced. This is probably one of those books that's better with picture. I actually felt pretty insulted by the lisp. My son has apraxia and has trouble pronouncing certain letters correctly. It's just taking the piss to do so when you yourself do not have such a difficulty.

Be True to Yourself and to Others!
Lovely little tale that warms up as it goes along and becomes something really quite rich and wonderful by the end. Haig's tale is dedicated to the misfits among us - the ones who can't help being who they are, and occasionally are made to think they must change or hide themselves in order to be loved and accepted. A great story with lots of learning opportunities for kids - and adults too!
Olivia Colman is a delightful narrator - she reads the book like the born storyteller she is, mixing voices and mischief and rhythm to great effect. Her kids must get the best bedtime stories!!
