Early one morning the curator of the Wallace Collection calls upon Sherlock Holmes requesting the Great Detective's assistance. Over the past few weeks, someone has been paying nocturnal visits to the gallery and apparently spending a great deal of time in one of the rooms devoted to medieval arms and armour. Although nothing appears to have been taken, the curator wants to know who is visiting after hours and why.

When Holmes inspects the room, he makes a startling discovery that sets in motion a chain of events which ends up pitting Holmes against a modern day Templar. As he follows the clues, he finds himself exploring an underground storeroom that dates from the Middle Ages and traveling to Cornwall to examine the vestiges of buildings erected by the Templars centuries earlier.

All the while, he is being shadowed by an adversary who seems at least equal to Holmes — if not one step ahead. It's a cat-and-mouse game that can have only one winner; unfortunately, no one - not even Holmes - knows what the prize is.

Mr Ryan never disappoints. Plenty of deductions, a good dose of history, and plenty of Watson make a great tale.

Love Mr Ryan

The Traitorous Templar tells a tale of archeology, mystery, suspense, and mortal danger. The author captures the feeling of Doyle’s Holmes novels, complete with an interlude starring other characters in another time whose actions are pivotal to the mystery being solved in the present. (Just the right length too— I didn’t have time to get bored as I usually do in the flashback segments of the canon novels.)

Props also to the narrator, Luke Barton, for his excellent performance. The accents and voices for the various characters added even more texture to the experience of the story.

Excellent!

Two of my favorite topics - Sherlock Holmes and a Templar puzzle - make for a thrilling adventure. The narration is excellent.

Outstanding!

Richard Ryan is one of those rare pastiche writers who truly "gets" the world inhabited by Holmes and Watson. His books, for the most part, are contemporaneous detective stories of the Victorian Era, mixed with a healthy does of historical research woven into the backstory.

As the title suggests, the Knights Templar play a key role in the past and the present of this account. Ryan once again puts his incredible ability to blend the two into a fast-paced novel that literally flies by. Narrator Luke Barton once again delivers up a well-read performance that brings to life the characters from the written page.

I am most pleased to recommend this book by Richard Ryan, and all those that have come before.

An excellent account by one of the best pastiche writers
