In 1978, the summer heat cracked open Black Hollow, and something ancient slipped free from the mine’s collapsing depths. Fifteen-year-old Alan Muncy escaped with his life—but not without a mark. For decades he has tried to bury the past under boardrooms, winter storms, and the warmth of his wife’s love. But scars remember, and the shadows have been patient.

Now, drawn back to the Appalachian mountains by a cryptic phone call, Alan finds a town smothered in mist and secrets. The cult that once failed to summon the Norse goddess Hel has not gone quiet—they have grown hungrier, more desperate, and more dangerous. And this time, they believe Alan is the key to opening the door fully.

As winter closes in and the town begins to unravel, Alan must face not only the cult and the darkness clawing at the edges of reality, but the truth of his own past. Because some debts cannot be escaped.
