Publisher's Summary

“Dying for freedom isn’t the worst that could happen. Being forgotten is.”

The long-awaited sequel in the best-selling The Things Our Fathers Saw series...

At the height of World War II, LOOK Magazine profiled a small upstate New York community for a series of articles portraying it as the wholesome, patriotic model of life on the home front. Seventy years later, a history teacher tracks down the veterans with a connection to “Hometown, USA” who fought the war in the air over Europe, men who were tempered in the tough times of the Great Depression and forged in battle. He rescues and resurrects firsthand accounts of combat and brotherhood, of captivity and redemption, and the aftermath of a war that left no American community unscathed. Here are the stories that the magazine could not tell, from a vanishing generation speaking to America today.

He has been featured as the ABC World News ‘Person of the Week’ and has had his work filmed for CBS News, NBC Learn, the Israeli Broadcast Authority, the New York State United Teachers, and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.

Only family is more important than history!

The authors subject in this book is so critical for today since history seldom leaves it's lessons in the minds of the next generation to learn from those who lived said history!

Loved this Book!

Enjoyed listening to all the stories.. and the book helps me to understand why my grandfather never talked about his time in Service of the Marines of WWII. This book is interesting and all generations should read or listen.

Outstanding in every way<br />

If you have any interest in the air war over Europe during World War 2 you will enjoy this immensely. The stories are at once humorous, mundane, informative, tragic and ultimately, unforgettable. These are the kinds of details that are missing from many historic works. These ordinary men who did their duty to preserve Freedom would never want to be called heroes but assuredly they are.
