Story
When Sam West wanders into the Sunny-Side-Up Diner for the last time, hoping for a last slice of Mort's world-class pie, and one last look at a waitress named Delilah, he has no idea he's about to become the instrument of a great, kharmic cleansing. The only thing crazier than the seemingly inevitable trail of bodies following Sam and Delilah south is the fact that - as State Police and local sheriffs begin to investigate - they find no evidence.

Story
This is the very first collection of short stories written by author David Niall Wilson. It was originally published as a signed, limited edition trade paperback in 1995. This book includes many early stories that have never been reprinted, and two - notably "On the Third Day," and "A Candle Lit in Sunlight" that were later expanded to full-length novels. The cover is by the late and sorely missed Augie Wiedeman and the interior illustrations are by Michael Grilla.

Christy Barnett is sleeping when her aging German shepherd Molly growls into the darkness outside her bedroom. She wakes to a dim glow provided by her Kindle's screen, thankful that she had fallen asleep while reading again. The power has gone out, the world outside her window is eerily dark and silent. Publisher's Summary
Headless bodies are turning up along the Mexican border. The Mexican government blames overzealous US Border guards. The border guards blame drug runners. In a village just on the Mexican side of the border, they have other ideas. There are legends, older even than the Mayan civilization that has died away, of a God. A bat-headed vengeful demon. Someone is fanning the flames of that superstition, and the piles of bodies continue to grow.
Geoffrey Bullfinch, folklorist, dabbler in the occult, and Wendell "Mack" Macklemore, computer genius and extreme sports enthusiast, are called down to investigate. There are plenty of questions, but can they find the answers before the body count gets too high? Is it possible that they should have let sleeping gods lie? Find out in this action-packed O.C.L.T. adventure.
This novella and Brought to Light by Aaron Rosenberg, are the first introductions to the members of the O.C.L.T. team. Next will be the full-length novel The Parting, also by David Niall Wilson, and then the creation of the actual team follows in Aaron Rosenberg's Insurrection. Look for many adventures to come in this Crossroad Press original series.

Good Short Story
Entertaining short story, kept your attention from beginning to the end, David Niall Wilson is a fine writer who I just discovered recently, I have a couple more of his books on my list to read/listen...I received this audiobook code for free and I am voluntarily posting my unbiased review. Also William Dufris did a good job of narrating.

Fans of Hellboy will love the O.C.L.T. Universe
The OCLT universe is basically a human version of the BPRD with an even better sense of humor. This OCLT story has two of the mc’s checking out ritualized killings south of the border. What they find is less than they expected which turns out to be something even more dangerous for that reason. Really great addition to the OCLT library. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator or publisher
