A Life Changing Book

From the very start to the end of The Tao of Wisdom, I was captivated by every word spoken. This book has the ability to change lives and alter mindsets for the better. Every taled was weaved beautifully and will hit home and I feel everyone will resonate with one story that truly can help you "level up" in life. For me, there were several like - Kungfu Fighter, Cold Ash, Selling Combs, The Weeds and The Best in The World. It's truly wonderful work and I must listen!

Packed with Deep Wisdom

I read this book back when it first came out and loved it. I heartily gave it a good review. When I saw the audio book version, I immediately downloaded it with the intention of using the lessons as a morning devotional. My expectation was only that I would review each chapter to help get my day off with a Tao lesson to mull over and to keep me on the path. This time going through the book by listening to it something extraordinary happened.

It was because I had already read the book. Maybe It is because listing rather than reading provides a deeper connection and clarity, I don't know, but this time I found even deeper and profound meaning on just the right things I needed to hear at just the right time. There were points in certain lessons that resonated with personal difficulties that I was going through at the time. The deep understanding provided in two of lessons deepened my faith, restored my courage, and helped me find my way forward again with confidence I had not had prior to reading.

Get this audio book and sit down with the intention of looking for answers to your own situation/s. Be honest with yourself and focus on lessons and how they can help you and you will not be disappointed. Derek has the ability to take ambiguous sounding Tao concepts and to both simply them and to show how they apply in everyday life, especially when you need to hear a particular lesson. If you open your heart, something will resonate with you illuminating the next step along your path. This audio book is that powerful.

LISTEN TO THIS!

Full disclosure: I’d read half THE TAO OF WISDOM before listening to the audiobook. This was partly because I didn’t really think I could absorb such a dense topic while hearing it read out loud, Also, I had no idea how I’d respond to the narrator. However I had no trouble with Eric Drummond, in fact he was much more dynamic than anticipated. He reads as if he’s telling you the story sitting right beside you…even The Tao explanations, which are rich, dense, and powerful, were gently taken in. ( BTW: When he speaks the Tao Te Ching, for me the content was NOT for multitasking, My suggestion is don’t try to drive and listen. It’s that Eric’s voice, is so animated and friendly with YOU as well as the MATERIAL, I couldn’t do anything else, because his voice is so compelling.)

I discovered listening to the parts without having read the book were quite different. With Eric Drummond’s narration, EVERYTHING is significant. The one issue with this is: It’s like a sumptuous meal. You eat slowly, mindfully every delicious morsel, then you realize you are gloriously sated, quite content, leaning back in your chair and sighing with gratitude.
Similarly, with the audiobook and friend Eric: "I don’t think I’m getting it because the content is totally fresh and new. My Brain has relaxed and sort “rides the waves of Eric’s voice, but the brain doesn’t seem to focus so hard. It would be easy enough to go back over a chapter or section, but riding the waves of his voice there’s no feeling of wanting to stop, as the process is so gentle/lovely/enjoyable/fulfilling. Until I realize I’m sated (or the waves have reached the shore). Now like the meal, I feel I have to say, “”Eric, Excuse me, I need some time to stop, and let this deliciousness sink in. I’m delightfully and completely satiated, and happily weary (after my ride on your wave.. ) Thank you for reading to me, Let’s get together again soon.”
Reading the end of the book AFTER listening to Eric's "story telling", I felt as if I knew each person in the stories as if they were OLD FRIENDS. I remembered the endings and loved each person in a way I've not felt in just my reading. Amazing buddies to help me. We had a "relationship"!

I’ve read almost all of Derek Lin’s books, and am very new to ancient, ancient Eastern seemingly upside down/seemingly paradoxical concepts. However, I would highly recommend your getting BOTH the book and audiobook. For me, having two different ways of learning The Tao has helped me grow and integrate mostly the stories for now. Telling the stories to others helps solidify them in my own being, as well as introducing the Tao to others.

Another possible way to use this audio book is to set it by your bedside, and listen ever so quietly, volume way down so you can barely hear it, and run it while you sleep. It was not great using my phone, but much better with computer sound. Some say it will enter your subconscious this way. As one who experienced a real change, it's definitely worth a try.

Have fun experimenting! HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Once again Derek Lin demonstrates his amazing ability to teach the wisdom of the Tao with a wonderful collection of stories. His clear explanations that accompany the stories guide the listener to a clear understanding of the subtle complexities of the Tao Te Ching. The narration by Eric Drummond is wonderful as well. Thank you Derek for another wonderful book.

Living life from wisdom

In the Tao of Wisdom Derek blends his gift for sharing stories with his ability to translate the spiritual principles within the Tao into usable applications for our modern lives. He has illustrated, through meaningful stories, how to live within the Tao and create a beautiful life centered in the Tao through our choice points.

The Tao of Wisdom has the tools to embrace clarity and simplicity during times of stress and confusion. I found it helpful in quieting my mind as I embarked on yet another job hunt. Tired, frustrated, and fraught with the disillusionment from a reduction in force layoff, I was seeking the commitment of an organization that would provide the stability from which to build a life. The more I listened, the more I realized that I have many opportunities to provide the stability and commitment I was seeking by changing how I approached life.

In my fear, I had withdrawn and withheld my gifts and talents. As I listened to the stories, I realized that I had begun approaching life and each interaction from a mindset of scarcity. I was living in the tunnel of scarcity instead of walking a path within the Tao.

When I stepped back, I saw how I could use this opportunity to improve my skills as well as how I was showing up. I found ways I could give my family, work, and community more commitment and stability. My life has been enriched through the changes. Each time that I listen to the Tao of Wisdom, I find that I am able to reclaim a more peaceful way of living and deepen my spiritual walk. I am grateful for Derek's insights and his graceful way of sharing portals back to the path of the Tao.

If you are seeking a better life, one that is filled with richer relationships and more rewarding experiences, I highly recommend the Tao of Wisdom.
