Publisher's Summary

Like millions of women, Laura Doyle wanted her marriage to be better. But when she tried to get her husband to be more romantic, helpful, and ambitious, he withdrew - and she was lonely and exhausted from controlling everything. Desperate to be in love with her man again, she decided to stop telling him what to do and how to do it. When Doyle surrendered control, something magical happened. The union she had always dreamed of appeared. The man who had wooed her was back.

The underlying principle of The Surrendered Wife is simple: The control women wield at work and with children must be left at the front door of any marriage. Laura Doyle's matrimony shows women how they can both express their needs and have them met while also respecting their husband's choices. When they do, they revitalize intimacy. The Surrendered Wife will show you how to transform a lonely marriage into a passionate union.

Great Information

I loved it! I only wished it was longer. The information inside is invaluable. I am going to use some of the tips to try and help me. The recording is clear and the narrator is pleasant to listen to. If this type of book is what you are looking for, it could save you some agony along the marriage path. I also got some of Dr. Laura's Books. A+

Wonderful!

This book is wonderful! I listened to it twice and then gave it to my sister. The author points out things I haven't thought of before. Great book.

I feel so much gratitude🙏

I enjoyed this audible version tremendously.
This information had me intrigued. Surrendering is the key to unlocking your husbands masculinity and sense of love , tenderness, protection. Now for the hard part ( application) I feel inspired to experience true surrender in every area of my life.
I would recommend reading this book if you notice your nagging, controlling, and feeling lonely within your marriage. It could be you stirring up all the drama and projecting it all on your husband.

Abridged!! AHHH

What did you like best about The Surrendered Wife? What did you like least?

Good information on marriage

What does Laura Doyle bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I like being able to listen to books while I'm doing other things. Can't really multitask while reading an actual paper book.

Do you think The Surrendered Wife needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

I think there should be an option to get this unabridged. I really dislike abridged books.

Any additional comments?

This was wonderful information. I really like the whole taoist kind of take on it. Like the tin yang kind of thing, that a lot of people may call antifeminist....I just think it's good information that a lot of people are afraid of.

Short and sweet + practical

I absolutely agree that the feminist movement has made it so that we can now CHOOSE to surrender, which makes it much more meaningful.

I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!! A MUST READ FOR ANY WIFE!

Where does The Surrendered Wife rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

At the top of my list, although FYI it is rather short. I wish it wasn't abridged.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Surrendered Wife?

I have had many

What did you learn from The Surrendered Wife that you would use in your daily life?

EVERYTHING. And it's worked wonders.

Any additional comments?

I first read this book in the paperback version, then bought the audiobook during a sale.

I LOVE LAURA DOYLE's narration!!!! I wish all narrators could sound as interesting as she is! It was so easy to listen to and understand, because she speaks as if she's standing right in front of you, engaging in a conversation with you!

5 stars for performance! I love when listening to an audiobook is captivating and this definitely was!

Not for Post Moderns

This book is probably perfect for traditionalists and I hope that these insights help your relationships! However, for modern and especially post modern persons I don't think this would be considered in any way progressive actions in establishing true equanimity within a relationship unless you had an honest discussion about how and why you were applying the changes that have been suggested in this book. People do not like to feel like that are being manipulated or toyed with.

Fantastic book

I think we could all do with giving up a little bit of control to lead happier and more fulfilling lives. This is essentially the essence of this story and I think the author explains it very well. As a former control addict and always looking for ways that I can surrender more and be better in my life and I definitely picked up a few fabulous tips from this book. perhaps her best tip is not retaliating in an argument but simply saying ouch Wenstone by the words of another. This leaves them to assess their words and leave them hanging in the air which has a far greater effect than retaliating in anger. Definitely recommended if you are married or intended to get married

Great for getting back on track !

This audiobook is short, but I find the quick overview very useful. I like to be reminded of Laura's techniques occasionally, usually when I feel my relationship starting to drift sideways. I find this audiobook very grounding and it's like taking a refresher course in her techniques.

For those who are hearing Laura Doyle for the first time, the audio book of "first kill all the marriage counsellors" may be more suitable. She explains a lot more of the "why" these techniques work and the long term goal.

My poor husband

A friend recommended this book as I had watched a film which had helped me recognise that I wasn’t allowing my husband to be a man. Having read this book I fall into every single category. It’s going to take time but I will work on this from today. I think I will need to listen again to this book every so often to help me reach my goal. Thank you so much for writing this in a clear , concise way that doesn’t degrade women but empowers us.

Brainless bilge

In an odd way, this (rubbish) book was uplifting because I realised I was nothing like the nagging whiny woman in the book who treats her husband like "an irresponsible child" (her words).
She uses Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers as an example of surrender - whilst apparently being (hilariously) oblivious to the fact that they hated each other.
She advises that you repeat "whatever you think" to anything your husband/partner says that you disagree with
- anyone with more than one brain cell (crying in the corner because it's all alone) will realise that (continually repeating this as though you were a well-turned-out, manicured parrot) this will become substitution for that well-known, on-your-head-be-it, here-there-be-monsters phrase: "fine".
Finally, anyone who uses the phrase "just as fish are the last to realise they are in the ocean..." deserves a one star review.

I could swallow and was sold by the empowered wife but this one.. not at all

It shows this was written before the empowered wife. All the same messages but without enough explanation to help understanding of the male psyche. Seems extremely submissive, and is highly off putting. The empowered wife i did like a lot though. Even if it was difficult to swallow and took a couple of reads to come around. There are some good points in that book. Give this one a pass though

Laura Doyle should get the Noble prize.

.. for extracting lost knowledge that women knew but there has been a cut off since the sixties. As a man I'm learning about things about myself that I always knew but couldn't put into relationship context.

ALL WOMEN NEED TO STUDY AND PRACTICE THIS WAY BEFORE MARRIAGE.

If it's not for you, well at least you can make an assessment of what you may want from knowing how things really are.

very repetitive

some of the book hit home and made me look at my own actions in raising a man child I now don't like , and trust issues in handing him the purse strings, making life less stressful for me might work , but over all I found it very difficult to listen to
