The more connected to nature you are, the more you will prosper. Consequently, the less connected you are to nature the more you will suffer from mental and physical disease. Light is one of the most important elements of nature, being the force carrier for the electromagnetic force — the strongest force in the universe. The abstract idea of light interacting with our biology is underpinned by the world of quantum mechanics.

This sounds complicated, but we will discuss it in brief and simple terms. Charges, both positive and negative, lie at every intersection of how we work — from genetic expression to healing, and even longevity. Light has the ability to interact with these charges, and this is the key bridge between the light we expose ourselves to and the biological reactions the light controls. In this book, the author shares his personal experience with both sunlight and man-made light through his own personal health journey.

With a tech background working as both an engineer and programmer in Silicon Valley and Seattle, WA, the author shares why he has changed his beliefs, adopting an apprehensive mindset in regard to adoption of man-made technology. Having owned several electric vehicles, the author also shares the dangers they pose to our lives as their prevalence increases globally.

This author introduces a lot of interesting ideas that take the “get morning light” health recommendation to another level. In particular, he introduces physics into the mix regarding how light impacts cellular chemistry and how that then guides your health. But, some minor errors make me question his analysis. First of all, there are errors in the book where the reader repeats herself to give a better or alternate reading, and these have been left in the recording. This is as of October 31, 2025. I have to question the accuracy of an author who would not hire someone to listen to and edit the book properly. Secondly, he states that the Masai only eat meat, blood, and milk. I have read that they also eat fruit as a snack, and that women and children in particular more often eat fruit. After using their lifestyle as proof that one can survive eating only meat and fish, and stating that all plants are unnecessary, I have to question the veracity of the details of some of this authors assertions. Reading the experiences of some on reddit who have eaten only beef and eggs for months, they have also stated that they also needed fruit eventually to get the benefit of an almost all meat diet. Something to think about. Additionally, outside of errors, unless you are an independently wealthy or self-employed person who will not suffer tremendously socially and economically by doing things like not wearing shoes, moving to the middle of nowhere (away from power lines and cell towers!), turning off your electricity and cell service at night (who knows what critical info you could miss), a lot of his recommendations are impractical. I get that he is giving us a menu of options, which I appreciate. I still wish he had offered guides for people living in different, specific, realistic circumstances, such as, a guide for city dwellers, a guide for office workers, a guide for busy, suburban stay at home moms. There must be a way to optimize sun exposure, supplements, red light devices, etc. for each of these groups more precisely given what types of stressors each are more likely to be subjected to. That all being said, I did enjoy the book. This author offers a lot to think about. I now try to watch the sunrise daily due to his work. Kudos!
