The Story of The Beauty and The Beast is a timeless tale written by Madame De Villeneuve in the 18th century. This audiobook brings the original tale to life with a profound story of transformation, its moral lessons deeper than the modern adaptations.

The youngest of the merchant’s daughters displays cheerfulness and fortitude when the family’s circumstances change. Then when her father becomes indebted to the fearsome beast in the mysterious castle, Beauty shows perseverance, selflessness, and empathy as she offers herself in exchange for her father. Virtue and generosity by the Prince bolster gratitude and tenderness in Beauty which breaks the curse.

Fans of classic fairy tales will appreciate magical transportation, powerful fairies, kings and queens, genies, and visions in slumber.

Enjoyable, the author clearly had feelings about societal norms and behaviors of the upper class and high nobility. She touches on how lower class individuals are treated.

IRL the author was upper class then struggled financially after being widowed and never remarried, it’s interesting to ponder in how her real life likely inspired some of the things she touches on in this story.

Kinda makes the Disney version of beauty and the beast feel watered down. But nonetheless still love it. 😅

Worth the listen for sure
