In the dusty town of Sandy Salts, 1200 miles from her farm in Pepperville, Iowa, Keilah meets landlord Dee, an elderly woman with a penchant for one-night stands and deep secrets; Nova, her boss’s self-centered daughter; and Phillip, Nova’s sometimes-ex. Soon her life in Sandy Salts is just as complicated as the one she left behind.

Rosabel was her entire world. That’s the only thing Keilah Brownwell knows for sure five years after the death of her best friend. When she is forced to leave her family farm as a condition of her father’s will, she knows just the place to land: somewhere she and Rosabel found together, a place that resembles the moon on Earth. While Keilah tries to heal herself and come to terms with the murky circumstances of Rosabel’s death, she unwittingly discovers the shocking event that shaped her landlord's childhood. Keilah finds herself drawn to this mystery just as strongly as her own. What she uncovers in both searches will change the town of Sandy Salts and Keilah forever.

The Story of Kielah

I liked this story! It was an honest, relatable experience of a woman trying to find her identity and self-confidence outside of her family and best friend.

Kielah’s story starts in Pepperville, following a tragedy that changes her life. As a child, a young girl proudly announces to her family that she is going to change her name to Kielah. What kid at some point in their childhood doesn’t dream about changing their name? The characters were amusing, yet credible. People don’t magically change their habits, and neither do the characters in Pepperville and beyond, yet I was still rooting for Kielah and her kith and kin.
