Would you believe it took nearly 500 years to translate the ESV (English Standard Version) Bible? That's because the ESV builds on the great translations of the past - including William Tyndale's New Testament of 1526 and the King James Version (KJV) of 1611. But the ESV Bible also builds on the best Christian scholarship of the last 100 years.

Story
Most historians agree that John Mark is the author of this account of the good news and it may have been one of the first Gospels written. What also distinguishes this book among the other Gospels is the emphasis of the suffering of Yeshua. This could have been due to the fact that during the time in history around 65 AD, Christians in Rome were experiencing great persecution. Some believe that Mark was attempting to emphasize Yeshua’s suffering in order to bring comfort and encouragement to the Church which was suffering as a whole.

Story
The book of Luke is a glorious gospel penned by one of the early followers of Jesus. It has been described as the loveliest book ever written giving us a very full picture of the life and ministry of Jesus. Luke applied scrupulous accuracy to all he wrote, to ensure that what we hear is factual. Being a physician, Luke learned early on the need to exhibit compassion and mercy toward others. This gospel is perhaps the most compassionate, love-filled account of the life of Jesus.

Definitely Dickens version of the gospel
- By Byron on 11-27-13

Publisher's Summary
The Gospels portray Jesus as both a healer and a teacher. They describe him performing miracles and they tell his words. The men who wrote these books believed that Jesus was the Messiah: the great leader promised in the ancient Jewish prophesies of the Old Testament. They said that he was the Son of God, that he died on the cross to redeem the sins of mankind, and that he rose from the dead after his crucifixion.
Today Jesus' message of love and forgiveness, and the drama of his life, continues to inspire people to find new ways in which to tell the "good story".
This version of The Story of Jesus is read by a British narrator, Teresa Gallagher.

Enjoyable and excellently narrated
The story was mostly accurate to the Bible accounts. I wish it would have included more from John's Gospel, especially John 3:16 and the raising of Lazarus. The narration was outstanding and so were the intermissions of music.

Story
God has given the world a treasure with the gospel of Mark. As God’s servant, we find Jesus healing, teaching, and working wonders throughout this beautiful gospel. Mark records nearly three times as many miracles as parables. As the briefest of the four gospels, you’ll enjoy hearing of Jesus’ supreme power over both the invisible and visible worlds.

Story
Before the Bible was a book, it was flesh and blood. Sean Gladding takes us between the lines of Scripture to listen in on the conversations of people wrestling with the Story of God for the first time. Whether sitting around a campfire in Babylon, reclining at a table in Asia Minor or huddled together by candlelight in Rome, we meet people encountering the Story for the first and the hundred-and-first time. With them we hear a tale that is at once familiar and surprising. The Story of God, the Story of Us is an account of Scripture that introduces us to people who remind us of ourselves, because as much as the Bible is a story about God, it's also a story about us—a story, perhaps, we have yet to hear. Read by the author and his wife, Rebecca.

Story
Robert Graves's controversial historical novel is a bold reworking of the story of Christ. Here Jesus is not the son of God, but the result of a secret marriage - the descendant of Herod and true King of the Jews. Written from the perspective of a lowly official at the end of the first century AD, King Jesus recounts Jesus's birth, youth, life as a charismatic 'wonder worker' and the unorthodox, bitter nature of his death and resurrection. Portraying Jesus not as divine but as a flawed human bent upon his own doom, this retelling of the gospels is a compelling blend of research

Story
A brilliant skeptic, Jose Saramago envisions the life of Jesus Christ and the story of his Passion as things of this earth: A child crying, the caress of a woman half asleep, the bleat of a goat, a prayer uttered in the grayish morning light. His idea of the Holy Family reflects the real complexities of any family, and, as only Saramago can, he imagines them with tinges of vision, dream, and omen.

Story
The Aquarian Gospel of Jesus the Christ provides an almost complete record of the words and works of Jesus Christ, including those years about which the New Testament Gospels are silent. It begins with Jesus's birth in Bethlehem and goes on to describe his 18 years of study in the East, his ascension from the Mount of Olives, and his travels to the monasteries of Tibet and the temples of Egypt, India, Persia, and Greece. Levi spent over 40 years preparing this document in order to tell the story of a much more complex Jesus than previously known.
