Oxford, Spring - 1354.

When the series of accidents to the building of the chapel at Queen’s College begin, they do not appear a cause for concern, but they grow more serious, and stonemasons are injured. Nicholas Elyot becomes involved after it is discovered that an intruder has reached the college by way of his garden. When Jordain Brinkylsworth’s youngest student goes missing, it seems at first that his disappearance is unconnected, yet he is one of the ‘poor boys’ supported by Queen’s. Surely this serious and studious boy cannot be responsible for the troubles?

And then someone is killed.

Just lovely. When is the next volume being published?. I may have to just start again listening to The Bookmaker's tale. Addictive!

Loved it. This is a great series. I can't wait for the next book to come out.

great series

I like them for the history, Its fun to read about "normal" people in the medieval times. These are not kings or noblemen and women. These are shop keepers and laborers. If you want mysteries, these are not for you because the "killers" are easily discovered. But if you're looking for good fun reading about what it was like to live during the 1300s, these are GREAT! I am looking forward to any others she may write.

i loved this series. And sadly, the author has passed so this is the last in that series. as with the preceding 5 it's beautifully written, historically accurate and well narrated. it ends on a hopeful upbeat note but one can only imagine the future of the characters one has come to love.

Well, it ends with us patiently waiting for these couples to work things out...
Oh, who am I kidding? I won't be patiently waiting for anything. I never have and I never will...

Ugh! Ends on a cliffhanger!

Nicholas is a wonderful, kind, thoughtful man, and Medieval Oxford is expressed beautifully by the author. I have enjoyed this series, and though the author is sadly gone, I feel she left us enough hope for the future of the main characters. The narration is impeccable.

A main character to admire, a well-wrought setting

I loved the characters of this world and am sad to see it end.The passing of the author shortly after this was published leaves us somewhat stranded in their lives. But I do believe that she left us enough Easter eggs to see where she would have gone. How our characters get their happy endings will
be up to our imaginations . The narrator is easy to listen too and all the different accents are well done. The six books are worth your time and attention.

Immersion in medieval life

Interesting mysteries that immerse us into 14 th century Oxford. I always learn something new whilst rooting for all the fabulous characters.

Master Elliott is a bright, fair minded sleuth.

I really enjoyed the stories. Ma Swinfen did a lovely job of helping one to imagine life in medieval Europe… Even if it was a little bit idealized. I’m going to miss Nicholas and Emma and Meg and all the others. I would have loved to have heard their stories play out. I loved the characters. 💖 Good journeys Ms Swinfen.

Thank you Ann Swinfen
