Story
There was an uneasy tension as the slave owners sought to maintain control and keep the slaves working calmly and the abolitionists began to question the moral cost of slavery. As they prepared to compile a special Bible for slaves in the West Indies, the missionaries agreed to uplift the Africans without teaching them anything that could incite rebellion. The Slave Bible is one of the most powerful examples ever witnessed of manipulation using a controlled narrative.

Story
Reverend Richard A. Morrisey (born 1858) was an African-American biblical scholar, a Doctor of Divinity, and the pastor of a number of churches in the South and in Pennsylvania. In 1915, he published Bible History of the Negro, with the hope of inspiring a greater desire to read the Bible which he describes as giving "the Negro a place among the foremost races of the world, in wealth, in education, in honor and in religion, a history to which every member of the race may point with great pride and profound gratitude to Almighty God today”.

Story
For two centuries, the deep-seated fear that many White people feel—of losing power, of losing economic standing, of losing a particular “way of life”—has been the driving force behind American politics and culture. And as we approach a future where White people will become a racial minority in the US, something estimated to occur as early as 2043, that fear is only intensifying, festering, and becoming more visible. Are we destined for a violent clash? What can we do to step into our country’s inevitable future, without tearing ourselves apart in the process?

Story
America’s backstory is a whitewashed mythology implanted in our collective memory. It should come as no surprise that the dominant narrative of American history is blighted with errors and oversights—after all, history books were written by white men with their perspectives at the forefront. It could even be said that the devaluation and erasure of the Black experience is as American as apple pie. In Black AF History, Michael Harriot presents a more accurate version of American history.

Publisher's summary
On August 20, 1619, about 20 Angolans arrived in the British colony of Virginia. They were brought directly to the settlement of Jamestown. There, they were bought or traded for supplies. The English colonists were more than happy to oblige the pirates, who had stolen the slaves from a Portuguese slave ship. Thus was the corruption and greed surrounding the human trafficking that was the slave trade.
The slaves had been kidnapped by the Portuguese and shipped halfway around the world. The arrival of the enslaved Africans in the New World marked the beginning of a two and a half century practice of slavery in North America.
Back in England and within their colonies, there was an internal conflict growing in the Christian hearts and minds of slave owners regarding the problem of the conversion of slaves to Christianity. English law forbade the enslavement of Christians. It was feared the owners would have to emancipate their slaves once they converted. Money and faith came into conflict. For far too long, money would win out.
There was also a fear that Christianity would put the wrong ideas into the slaves, making them rebellious. After all, books such as Exodus are examples of how an enslaved people freed themselves from their captors. The owners petitioned their government for a ruling on the matter of the necessity for freeing the newly baptized slaves.
The government responded in writing: “[There is] colonial legislation declaring that baptism did not alter slave status.” The paper went on to claim their race had such dehumanizing effects, that even their potential Christianity did not change their status. With this ruling, along with the promise that all verses in the Bible regarding freedom and rebellion would be stripped out, the owners permitted production and distribution of the Slave Bible.

Turning the other cheek does not mean standing by while the enemies of God dismantle Christian civilization and brainwash our children. Decrying the cowardice that masquerades as meekness, Eric Metaxas summons the Church to battle. An attenuated and unbiblical “faith” based on what Bonhoeffer called “cheap grace” has sapped the spiritual vitality of millions of Americans. Paying lip service to an insipid “evangelism,” they shrink from combating the evils of our time. Metaxas refutes the pernicious lie that fighting evil politicizes Christianity.

The ancient Toltecs believed that life, as we perceive it, is a dream. We each live in our own personal dream, and these come together to form the dream of the planet, or the world in which we live. Problems arise when our perception of the dream becomes clouded with negativity, drama, and judgment (of ourselves and others), because it's in these moments of suffering that we have forgotten that we are the architects of our own reality and we have the power to change our dream if we choose.

It is the supreme authority in Islam and the living source of all Islamic teaching; it is a sacred text and a book of guidance that sets out the creed, rituals, ethics, and laws of the Islamic religion. It has been one of the most influential books in the history of literature. The secret to happiness is to acknowledge and transform suffering, not to run away from it. Here, Thich Nhat Hanh offers practices and inspiration transforming suffering and finding true joy. Thich Nhat Hanh acknowledges that because suffering can feel so bad, we try to run away from it or cover it up by consuming. We find something to eat or turn on the television. But unless we’re able to face our suffering, we can’t be present and available to life, and happiness will continue to elude us.
