Publisher's summary

In this classic novel of love at first sight from Debbie Macomber, one woman learns to stand up for herself - and for love.

A people pleaser through and through, Christy Manning takes off work to drive from Seattle to Cougar Point, Montana, for the birth of her sister’s first child. But when the blessed event arrives early, her brother-in-law is M.I.A. and her sister refuses to leave without him. Things are looking hopeless, until Christy calls Sheriff Cody Franklin. Even before he saves the day, sparks are flying between them. There’s just one problem: She’s reluctantly accepted a proposal from another man.

Cody has been burned before, so when he learns that Christy is engaged, he tries to forget about her. But try as he might, the sheriff can’t stay away. Their intense connection is unlike anything Cody has felt before. No matter what choice Christy makes, she’s going to hurt someone. But at the end of the day, if Christy can’t learn to follow her heart, she’s going to lose out on something - and someone - special.

Great author

Another great Macomber classic. I enjoyed listening to it. It was a sweet romance with some conflict and some growth as well. I liked the main characters but I thought Christy was a too much of a people pleaser and a bit of a push over. I am glad she had some growth in that area. I thought the chemistry between the two main characters was great. They complimented each other well. The narrator did a good job too. I would recommend this book to others who enjoy quick and easy romance listens/reads.

Too scared to make a decision

The female protagonist is a paralegal, but is too afraid to tell her fiancé that she fell in love with someone else. This story is so unbelievable.

Voices

This is a great story, but both of these stories, THE COWBOY’S LADY and THE SHERIFF TAKES A WIFE, need some better male voices. The male voices have very little inflection, unlike the female voices. The men’s voices are very monotonous and annoying. I could give it a 5 star rating if it weren’t fir the men’s voices.

Excruciatingly weak and wimpy main character

I only finished this because we were traveling and i didn’t have wifi access to download something else. This book was awful. Narrator OK, plot very dated (no cell phones). Heroine, if you can call her that, did not know her own mind and made her
decisions based on pressure from others. She wouldn’t reverse decisions because it might hurt someone else’s feelings, even though her decisions were poor and clearly would not work out. Not a positive female character by today’s standards.

This was not what I expected of a Debbie Macomber novel.

An Okay Read

The story was just okay for me, the plot dragged on too much and the main female character was very annoying.

Cute but frustrating

I have the hardest time with conflict due to lack of communication or lies. Nothing frustrates me more in books so although it was cute and worked itself out, I got really annoyed with her for not being honest or having a backbone.

Great listen

A good story with a nice love story that will make you wish it were true. Not very suspenseful but not many love stories are.

Girl needs to "grow a pair"

seriously.... Christy doesn't deserve Cody. And the constant "I (pause) I (pause)" in the writing/narration was really irritating. I usually enjoy Debbie's books, but this definitely was Not my favorite.
