Publisher's Summary

King Jaron has outwitted the Prozarians and returned to his own kingdom with one secret in his pocket that not even his friends know about. He's hoping that secret will help him finally bring stability to Carthya.

But a surprise attack on his own land - on the castle itself - reminds Jaron that nothing is easy. The Prozarian Monarch threatens to crumble Jaron's entire kingdom. And that's not the only thing in danger: With old enemies and new rumors circling around him, even Jaron's relationship with Imogen is uncertain.

This former False Prince will need his best tricks and many allies at his side to hold Carthya together.

The most beautiful end to a beautiful series

I absolutely loved this book.

Jaron is the most fun, mischievous, unpredictable, and slightly foolish character ever.
Imogen is the kindest, sweetest, and most perfect fit for Jaron.
This book is the perfect mix of drama, action, adventure, war, true loyalty, coming of age, and a little romance. The series is beautiful, but the last book is perfect. I almost cried at the end, I wish there was a another book at the same time I feel Jarons story has finally ended. The feeling at the end is one of contentment and completion.

Worth every CENT!

Jennifer A. Nielsen has made another masterpiece, a perfect ending to a great series with a chance to follow up with another book (or series) on Catlyn’s story. I was NOT disappointed, definitely going to listen to again (at least ten times more). Narrator did a brilliant job

Jaren always wins in the end.

I loved this ending to the series. I liked Shattered Castle, it reminded me of the first book False Prince.

Enjoyable, but Over the Top

I've enjoyed the series, but Jaron's escape from impossible situations is so over the top that I often struggled to suspend reality. I wish this series were a little more realistic. I really enjoyed the romance and this is my favorite book in the series because the romance was developed better than the previous books.

I love this series!

I’ve grown up, listening to this series, I didn’t expect there to be any more books, but I believe that this is the best possible way this book could’ve gone. The voices were great, and the storyline kept me interested.

Excellent ending

Not being satisfied with the fourth book I was skeptical about this one. I need not have worried. A wonderful ending. Jaron is finally the King he should be. A little confusing at times but it all resolved well and the ending is perfect.

Bittersweet😢😩🤭🤩😂🤣😰

I loved the end, but I was so sad when the series ended. I think Jennifer A. Nielsen should do another series featuring Storm.
The best book ever but sooooo sad that it ended🥹😍😍😍🤣🤣😰😢😭🤭🫣

Amazing Series

All five books keep you on your toes. You never know which way the plot is heading. I have listened to the series at least five times. It is one of my favorite book series I own. Great job.

An interesting end to the Ascendance Series

I finally got around to reading this book, and it's an interesting ending to the Ascendance Series! Surprisingly, this takes place over a few days and we see Jaron take some differing views on his own introspection. But the Prozarian return makes for a great, if not somewhat annoying, antagonist!

A great ending if any, and I look forward to re-reading this entire series again soon.

Loved it!

Loved this! Such an easy read, I really loved the ending! Some great characters, some dodgy accents from the narrator but they were pretty amusing, highly recommend this series as an easy listen series with some great characters!

Astonishing

This series has made significant changes to my life it mad made me wiser in the fact that I can understand the way that people throughout my life think about me I have come to learn to accept those thoughts and embrace them. It is unfortunate that this is most likely the end of the series swing as jaren has finally settled Down and slowed his life. The only foreseeable way of continuing this series is if it is carried onto storm whom most likely will cause more damage than jaren even did
