A chilling thriller brought back to life with enhanced audio, featuring new narration by Hillary Huber.

“Koontz is brilliant.” - Chicago Sun-Times

An ordinary parking lot in southern California. Christine Scavello and her six-year-old son are accosted by a strange old woman.

"I know who you are," the woman snaps at the boy. "I know what you are."

A scream, a threat - and then a grotesque act of violence. Suddenly Christine's pride and joy, her only son, is targeted by a group of religious fanatics. They've branded him the Antichrist. They want to kill him. And they are everywhere...

Loved the suspense and Koontz's special ability to keep you on edge. Great ending....great reading.

Another great Koontz novel full of mystery and suspense.

it was a pretty good story, but i kinda feel like it could’ve been told with a lot less words.
the suspense near the end was practically nail-biting, and although i ‘Knew’ how it would end, i’m hoping that there will be more light shed on Joey as he gets older. i’d love to know more about what happens in the years to come ..
as for Ms Huber, she was a relatively good voice actor, and i enjoyed her narration. there were just a few places where she kind of, dragged, or went into a monotone, but they weren’t enough to make me stop listening.
all in all, it was worth the credit!

suspenseful!

I've struggled to find another new audiobook that I actually enjoyed. call dad ended once I settled in to a story from an old favorite author, Dean Koontz. he waste no time Meandering character Exposition or back story, instead of getting right to the point, and into the meat of the story. this time around, he doesn't dive head-first into all-out Supernatural
, but instead often Stratus defense between logic and absolute impossibility. I think this equivocation allows for the reader do employ their own imagination more effectively in deciding whether or not these characters lean towards magical or simply just Mystikal in nature. there is something simultaneously satisfying and aggravating when you have an tagonist that is so relentless in their pursuit and attack, and this is something that Dean Koontz is known for, so it's important to know this going in, then sometimes the anti-heroes seem to be absurdly lucky, but it does keep you on the edge of your seat. It's a satisfying story from beginning to end, with none of the lulls in excitement or even interesting plotlines, and it's guaranteed to satisfy any Koontz fan, or those who like thrillers in general.

another Banger from Dean Koontz.

I really liked the careful portrayal of details in describing things and thoughts. This made the story come to life.

The relationship between the mother and son.

I didn't dislike the book, but I have enjoyed other Koontz much more. I love solid endings, and this one left me wondering. Maybe there is a sequel, but I haven't found it yet.

Good Listen

I read this one when it came out. Enjoyed it being read to me just as much when I read it back then.

You can't miss with a Dean Koontz book.

it was too drawn out for me. The character development was ok, the ending was a bit anticlimactic.

it was ok

I love Dean Koontz this was my 30th or 31st Dean Koontz novel and I loved it I just wanted more definitive answers and action towards the end of the book it's more than obvious the true conclusion but I just wanted more

good but could have been better

This is a story who's primary question has been addressed (particularly in the 80s) a few times before, The Omen, Rosemary's Baby, etc.
Is the Antichrist in the world today? What will his coming look like?
Could it possibly be *my* child?
Dean Koontz takes on this premise in his own masterful style and adds the question "If you knew a child would grow up to be Hitler (or worse) would you have the responsibility to do something about it? And would it be right to take out such a threat before he had a chance to make a choice for himself?
There are some pretty big inconsistencies between this book says the Bible says, and what is actually contained there in, particularly that the Antichrist will reign for 1000 years, when the Bible makes it clear it will only be 7, but all this can be written off as Mother Grace's dogma, and other characters simply repeating it.
Another more disturbing question from DK in this book seems to be "Could the world be so much worse if the devil actually *were* in charge?
And this seems to me to have been a question the author was actually struggling with at the time.
Given his later writings I hope he has realized that "Yes it definitely would be worse."
Overall a good take on this subgenre.
The reader is good, and INFINITELY better than the previous "Angela Dawe" whose grating emotionless robot voice made it IMPOSSIBLE to listen to before.
Hillary is not the greatest female reader ever but hers is the voice of an angel by Comparison.

The Best "Birth of Antichrist(?) story"

As a huge Koontz fan, I have to say I was slightly disappointed with the ending of this story, it could have been so much more, but the worse thing about the reading was the woman’s voice. How she decided to perform the little boys voice was as enjoyable as nails on a chalk board.
I would recommend reading the this book but not listening to it

Narration is annoying
